atleast rex will not have trouble dealing with the media.

he said all the right things, ironically all the things he said were in complete contrast of mangini... i figure he is trying to win the allienated fans like me over.

but i am optimistic. i will root for the new coach.

my question is

is he smart enough to beat bellycheat consistently every year? i dont know the answer to that yet and so i will stay cautious

I don't think beating the Pats should be the main concern. They have to be seen as just another division rival. If we were to lose to the Pats twice and still get into the playoffs I will not complain. When healthy the Pats are a great team and although we have high expectations I'm not convinced we'll be at that level yet.

He talks the language of football. I read where he said in an article that he did not like players out on the field worrying about mistakes. That is just what Mangini wanted them to do. These guys are not rocket scientists, but they are the equivalent of rocket scientists when it comes to athleticism. He wants them thinking about doing instead of not doing. They will probably arrive at their targets a little sooner with that approach.

You really only have to beat the Pats once a year. Go 5-1 or 4-2 in the division and the Jets should be in good shape.

It doesn't take rocket science to beat Belichick with his aging team. Belichick has lost his fair share of games with the Pats in recent years, regardless of going 16-0 last year.

The Jets should be able to beat the Pats next year at least once even if Brady is healthy.

If you think about it, in 9 quarters of football the Jets played, Mangini coached like an absolute whussy in 6 of them and came out with a 1-1 record.

I really don't see the need to be "cautious."

Cautious about what? Are we as fans that emotionally fragile that we can't just be excited now because we're afraid things may go bad later?

My son is 3 years old. Am I to say, "You know, I have to make sure I don't enjoy too much being around my son right now because he may grow to be a criminal and I don't want to be dissapointed."

Be happy. This is an exciting time as we look to the future. Enjoy this moment. There is no guarantee in the future, so we might as well savor the present.

No reason not to be optimistic. This guy is definitely different than Mangini, and though he has no HC experience he is a proven winner. Either way, we've got remember all the 2008 pickups: Jenkins, Faneca, Woody, Pace.. this team is vastly improved from 2007 in terms of its core and has gotten rid of a coach that was clearly not ready to be where he was.
