sirlancemehlot
glad u said it. No RB means you've not only tipped your hand, but eliminated the screen out of the backfield, the shovel pass, the draw, or the off-tackle/up-the-gut standbys. Also--no help in backfield protection. Shotty over-thinking again.
JMJ
I touched on this with statistics in the other Schotty thread on the main board now. The post was a copy and paste from a post I wrote about 3-4 weeks ago. However, in the original thread it was posted in, CTM was supporting me also in saying that this strategy was indeed Schotty and not Favre. He posted a link to NFL.com's video section of Chad Pennington's highlights from 2006. They only had 3 video highlights of him operating on 3rd and short. All 3 of them were out of the shotgun. This did not arise because of Favre. It is Schotty's style to 3rd and short offense and it sucks.

Chad would signal the play, we would line up quickly so the defense could not set, and we would run the QB sneak for the first down at a very successful rate. Going by memory, we didn't run a single QB sneak with Favre this season.

It was Chad hurrying them up to the line and immediately snapping it.

No RBs. On one play someone motioned behind the line, but in front of Chad. Not even with him or behind him so there was still not threat of the run. So Schotty didn't have any part of installing that into the offensive game plan? I find that hard to believe.

Ahhh, I see what you're saying now. Yes, I'm sure Schotty had a lot to do with installing it into the game plan, but it was Chad's call on the field to hurry them up and do it. What I meant was it wasn't a play call of Schott's into Chad's helmet. Plain and simple though, Schott loves the shotgun, empty backfield play calls on 3rd and short and most Jets fans hate it.
