According to the National Center for Education Statistics, foreign students comprise 3.5% of the total enrollment in US colleges.

According to my scientific calculator purchased at the dollar store, that amounts to an yearly percentage increase of 1.75% since 1954-55, (the first year statistics were kept), when it was 1.4%.

However, the percentage of foreign students has not risen since 1999-2000, when it was also 3.5%.

No statistics are available on how many foreign students are soccer players who kick for their schools football team.

I have a scientific calculator too.

I bought it at school, though. Over 19 years later, it's still working with the original battery. Is that a record?

Might be. How much do you use it?

Graphing calculators are the way to go. You can see what you typed in, in case you make a mistake, and do a backspace to fix it.

A fair bit, it's a lot handier than the calculator on the computer, or phone.

Of course, it's not quite as advanced as yours.

Yours is pretty good. I can't stand using a calculator on a computer or those simple calculators anymore.

I need the graphing one for work, so I use it for personal stuff as well.

That's the exact same calculator I got at Walmart for four bucks a few years ago. The battery quit so I picked up the one at the dollar store.

I didn't get 19 years out of the battery, more like three.

I've seen calculators which run on solar panels and I've seen calculators which run on batteries. I wonder if anyone has seen a calculator which uses a solar panel to recharge a battery?

Are there more Americans that study abroad then there are foreigners that study here?

According to opendoors online,

Over the past decade, the number of U.S. students studying abroad has increased by over 150 percent.

In academic year 2006/2007, 241,791 U.S. students

studied abroad, an increase of 8.5 percent from the

previous year.

The number of foreign students studying here, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, is 623,805.

That probably should not surprise anyone. There are only a comparatively few nations with a high standard of living where American students would most want to go to study, and a lot of countries with lower standards of living who have students who would prefer to study here. Which is not to say that there are not some strong instutions in some poorer countries.

WOW that % seems real low.

Since it is an average, I would think the percentage varies from college to college. So some colleges might have a much higher percentage, but it will be counterbalanced by other colleges where the percentage of foreign students is lower than the norm.
