Borgoguy
In conjunction with a consortium led by Jetlag, I am hereby launching the Progressive Rock Thread. Please list your favorite artists, and tunes, from this genre. I will start with keyboard wizard, Rick Wakeman, who dazzled us all in Yes, but had a spectacular run as a solo artist with such albums as The Six Wives of Henry VIII and The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Borgoguy
Though they cross the boundaries of several musical genres, here's where--IMO--Rush first ventured into Prog Rock territory. Borgoguy
Rush Xanadu YMUPQaIgquQ "Xanadu" 'To seek the sacred river Alph To walk the caves of ice To break my fast on honeydew And drink the milk of Paradise...' I had heard the whispered tales of immortality The deepest mystery From an ancient book I took a clue I scaled the frozen mountain tops of eastern lands unknown Time and Man alone Searching for the lost Xanadu Xanadu... To stand within the Pleasure Dome Decreed by Kubla Khan To taste anew the fruits of life The last immortal man To find the sacred river Alph To walk the caves of ice Oh, I will dine on honeydew And drink the milk of Paradise A thousand years have come and gone but time has passed me by Stars stopped in the sky Frozen in an everlasting view Waiting for the world to end, weary of the night Praying for the light Prison of the lost Xanadu Xanadu... Held within the Pleasure Dome Decreed by Kubla Khan To taste my bitter triumph As a mad immortal man Nevermore shall I return Escape these caves of ice For I have dined on honeydew And drunk the milk of Paradise
Jetlag
I feel obligated to throw this in here. It's more electronic prog but anyone with an open mind to music especially prog should enjoy it. This is my favorite song off of what is already being called the album of 2009 in the underground/indy music world. The first 50 seconds are NOT the song, just some intro from the sponsors of the concert. Animal Collective ~ Brother Sport NncmILE_7mQ The album is Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective if you're interested.
Borgoguy
Uriah Heep July Morning (From Look at Yourself.) PcyH49_J1wc There I was on a july morning Looking for love With the strength Of a new day dawning And the beautiful sun At the sound Of the first bird singing I was leaving for home With the storm And the night behind me And a road of my own With the day came the resolution Ill be looking for you La la la la I was looking for love In the strangest places Wasnt a stone That I left unturned Must have tried more Than a thousand faces But not one was aware Of the fire that burned In my heart, in my mind, in my soul La la la la There I was on a july morning I was looking for love With the strength Of a new day dawning And the beautiful sun And at the sound Of the first bird singing I was leaving for home With the storm And the night behind me Yeah, and a road of my own

Kraftwerk Robots wHEoMpMvz7A&feature=related Very interesting that you bring up Kraftwerk because I've read many times that they're sort of the grandfathers to a lot of the electronic indy stuff that has been coming out the last few years. I've been meaning to check them out. Is all of their stuff that repetitive?

His iconic album Albedo 0.39 still floors me, especially given that it was created in 1976. Vangelis Pulsar (From Albedo 0.39.) Jetlag
While we're talking electronic. Here's my favorite song of the BEST album of 2008. It is a must listen, IMO. The name of the band is Cut Copy and the album is In Ghost Colours. It's one of those albums where the songs kind of bleed into each other, really well put together and complete.
