MANGINI SENDS STRONG, BUT INCONSISTENT, MESSAGE

Posted by Mike Florio on January 24, 2009, 4:12 p.m.

Earlier this afternoon, we posted an item about a new, and annoying, trend of writers with annual earnings in the five figures to drive the whaaambulance for coaches who

He did the same thing here, pushed the historic members of the team to the side. I remember a story not too long ago about it. I see the point no sense living in the past, but that has no relevance to the players it's for the fans. I have yet to see a player that feels less of a desire to win cause the team was successful 20, 30, 40 years ago. It's about motivating your players now, and I'm sure Buddy or Joe Willie could give one hell of a rousing speech. I know hearing Buddy talk I want to tackle someone.

I read somewhere there are pictures of the former greats of the Browns all over the facility...The players today don't give 2 s**ts about that stuff..They want their pics on the walls..Its not a f**king museum and the public is not allowed in so who cares except d**khead Mike Florio who spends an inordinate amount of time sweatin Mangini's balls ..Who cares.

Out of Jim Brown, Otto Graham, Paul Brown, Dante Lavelli, Marion Motley, Lou Groza, and Leroy Kelly, how many even played during the Super Bowl era? Maybe Dante Lavelli, because I have no idea who the **** that is.

They are all Ravens anyway, I guess. The Browns should have a mural featuring Tim Couch, William Green, Courtney Brown, and Gerard Warren.

It's a mildly interesting observation that the Browns' new coach paints over a mural of past greats, then invokes their name at his first press conference. Exactly what the effect any of this has on the present Browns team is hard to see. And for what it is worth, Jim Brown did win at least one NFL championship while he was playing. The SuperBowl is just another name for the NFL championship, in fact for the first few years the league officially frowned on calling it the SuperBowl, insisting it be called the NFL championship game.

Mangini is a fool. He pulled similar stuff with the Jets with alieniating retired players from the facilities.

Mangini needs to actually start winning football games before he can claim he is going to create a winning culture. Mangini will be fired by the Browns and never be a HC in the NFL again if he contines on this path.

You and me both. Now I wonder just how long the threads about Mangini will last around here. They're still writing about Herm here so it will be at least 3-4 years before the Mangini threads stop.

Herm will outlast Mangini threadwise.... IMO

Nah. It'll be hard to find a good quote in a Mangini Press Conference. Hell, it'd be hard to find a good quote in 100 Mangini Pressers.

That all depends on how long these two boobs actually manage to continue to be employed by the NFL for. Mangini's advantage is that Herm will probably never get a head coaching job again. Herm's advantage is that he's just a hell of a lot more amusing than Mangini. We shall see.

Wait, what?

Hold on, let me read that one more time.

OK, read it. Seriously, what?

Your criticism, Mr. Florio, is that players who brought a string of championships to Cleveland matched only by organizations like the Yankees, Lakers, Celtics and Canadiens, were failures because they played their careers before the NFL called its title game the "Super Bowl"?

Seriously?

Crazy, right? Somehow these Brown greats who played prior to the SB era should be discarded.

Florio is a fool.

That's about as logical as TX's never-ending arguments that the Jets never won a Super Bowl. Let's be honest, Florio's an assclown. This should be a shock to no one.

BTW, nice to see you've made the jump doggin.

Once more in context. The post is about the perception and/or reality that the former players, as former players, have had some sort of say in how the team is run, and it's true that whatever such input they have had has failed to produce a Super Bowl. I don't see how Jim Brown running his trap all the goddamned time can possibly be helpful.
