Morrissey
http://blogs.weei.com/robbradford/2009/01/25/deadline-for-varitek/ Deadline for Varitek Posted by Rob Bradford WEEI.com has learned from source close to the negotiations that the two-year offer made by the Red Sox to catcher Jason Varitek is for $5 million for the first year, along with a club option for $5 million or a $3 million player option for season No. 2 of the deal. It is believed incentives would be part of the agreement. The Red Sox have set a deadline for Varitek to accept the offer, although it is not known what that is. CrazyCarl40
Should have taken the arbitration Tek. That's what you get for listening to Boras. That said, come back hit .250 and guide this pitching staff and all will be forgotten.

JonEJet
So sad to see vaginatek's career come to this What a slap in the face by the team. The man has led your franchise, and they slap him in the face with this bs contract, all while the team does not have a plan if he doesn't sign. 2nd rate franchises treat their all-time greats like this. This is why a guy like Tex wants to play for the Yanks, not the Sawx

If he was a Yankee, I'd hope he retired. By the way, what do you think about what the Yankees did with Bernie Williams?

There are not a lot of options out there. This is similar to how the Yanks are handling Pettitte but they at least have alternatives.
JonEJet
The problem with the Sawx, is that THEY HAVE NO CATCHER They need Vaginaman A crap offer like that to their captain is a joke Bernie Williams? They signed Damon, so at least they had a guy in place

Fight the fight, man. Fight for those principles.
JonEJet
I am just saying that the Sawx do not even have a catcher They need Tek Now back to your arguement. If you were using the Mets in that arguement, when have the Mets had more success than the Yanks....seems as if you need the Sawx to fight your battles Keep on fightin' the fight man

They signed Damon, so at least they had a guy in place They offered arbitration which would have netted him at least $10 million. Boras f'd his client by having him turn it down and not tell him that any team signing him would have to forfeit a first rounder as well.
