Scientists Not So Sure 'Doomsday Machine' Won't Destroy World

Still worried that the Large Hadron Collider will create a black hole that will destroy the Earth when it's finally switched on this summer?

Um, well, you may have a point.

Three physicists have reexamined the math surrounding the creation of microscopic black holes in the Switzerland-based LHC, the world's largest particle collider, and determined that they won't simply evaporate in a millisecond as had previously been predicted.

Rather, Roberto Casadio of the University of Bologna in Italy and Sergio Fabi and Benjamin Harms of the University of Alabama say mini black holes could exist for much longer

I think out of control deficit spending, printing of money, and endless BS bailouts will do us in before the giant black hole kills us.

I am betting on the scumbag cabbie who is always talking jibberish into his bluetooth headset while driving me around and is actually a member of a sleeper cell will do us in before blackholes or the economy.

Frankly, it sounds like there is enough doubt about this that we should strongly consider putting the whole thing off for 100 years and reconsider it when we know more.

I personally am not completely comforted by legit scientists saying that a black hole which instantly gobbles up the Earth PROBABLY won't result from this experiment.

I dont trust these scientists since skylab fell out of space.

I'm moving my lawn furniture inside.

It's not just scientists for me. For the longest time, I have seen that most institutions in which we have placed our trust--financial, housing, medical, educational, etc.--have been corrupted by greed and flawed "business" models. Further, a large proportion of the individuals which comprise these institutions are either incompetent or satisfied to be spoon fed the party line by drug companies, lobbyists, or heads of multi-national conglomerates that fund "research" like we are about to witness with the Hadron Collider.

The mindset is nothing new. It's just re-directed. People used to put all that trust in mystical beings and their pimps in the church. They weren't any better served.

Hence the AMC Gremlin.
