Could Favre Force His Way To Minnesota?

I think Favre should go. Not because I think he is horrible, because the Jets went in a new direction. They need to go all the way with this thinking. If Favre was really wanting to commit to this team the whole way. Including the off season. Then fine come on back. I just don't see that happening though. As far as Minny's goes, we can't trade him there because then we have to give up draft picks to the packers. I'm not sure how many, but I think it's 2 first round picks.

Of course Favre's master plan would go up in smoke if the Vikings have no interest. Favre didn't exactly showcase himself last year.

The Vikings would take him in a second. Just think of how many Jerseys he would sell. Favre might end up like Parcells. He will be playing ten years after the man in the mirror first told him it was time to go.

I think it's even more than 2 - I think it's something insane, like 4...

Personally, I dont get the love from Favre wanting to play for Minny...maybe now that he's old he's tired of playing outside in the cold? Plus getting to stick it to the Packers twice a year?

I agree. The Vikings would gobble him up in a nano second.

I'm gonna sound a little conspiracy theorist here but...what if Favre tanked it at the end of the season?

Think about it if he takes the Jets to the playoffs there is no way the Jets trade or Release him, we'd want to keep him for another run so he'd be forced to retire if he wanted out. If he tried to pull with the Jets what he did with GB the NY media would crucify him and tarnish his rep forever.

So say he tanked it, now the Jets aren't so keen to hold on to him. He knows we are over the cap bad, so maybe there is a deadline well what happens if he doesn't have a decision by then? Maybe Favre is hoping he gets released and can go play where he wants.

It's an idiotic title for the article. WTF do they mean by "force"?

Favre "forced" his way out of GB because GB didn't want to let him go. If Favre wants to go, the Jets would be happy to say buh bye.

Favre can't force his way out of somewhere where that team would be happy for him to go. The Jets would prefer to trade him to the Vikes to get a pick for him rather than having to release him.

did anybody else notice how it seemed nobody was even talking to Brett the whole month of December? Not coaches, not receivers, not offensive linemen, and not even Brett Ratliff who ALWAYS seemed to make his way next to Favre on the sidelines before...

That weak-ass pick he threw in the Seattle would certainly support that theory...he's certainly had his share of questionable antics before (re:lying down for Strahan's sack record)

The man was hurt in December

I also don't think he would do anything to "screw" the Jets franchise

if he plays next year, it's here

We went through the same thing with Chad a couple of years ago JEJ....he was hurt but still wanted to play. If Brett Favre was hurt he had his own selfish interests (like his consecutive game record) before his teams'. Any player that hurts his team by NOT telling someone he is hurt is "screwing" that team.

And I will add that any head coach that PLAYS a hurt player when a healthy one is sitting behind him is ALSO an idiot. See; Herm Edwards and Mangini

He must have been hurt the last 4 Decembers, he has dropped off significantly in every one.

How come he has not had the surgery for this terrible injury?

:sign0098:

If he was so hurt why did he continue to throw the deep pick?

Why did he not tell Schotty to call more runing plays, and screens?

Why did his decision making suck, was his brain hurt too?

He's a selfish prick, I hope they tell his ass to beat it!!!

On Monday, Sports Illustrated's Peter King wrote that "You're kidding yourself if you think [brett Favre's] going to move back to New Jersey for 12 to 16 weeks in March. 'I've never been in a [full] offseason program,' Favre told me a month ago..."

This was in response to Jets owner Woody Johnson, who during a radio appearance last week, offered this: "If [Favre] wants to play and he comes in early, which he will, and goes through the training like everybody else, we'll ... (Brian) Schottenheimer will give him a playbook and he'll have a lot more time to prepare."

As the New York Daily News' Rich Cimini points out, that's hardly Johnson giving Favre an ultimatum. "Would Johnson like Favre to show up before August? Yeah, sure. But there was no 'or else' consequences, primarily because it's January."

There's plenty of time work out the details. In the meantime, Cimini raises another important issue:

This could be [Rex] Ryan's first real challenge as a coach. What if Favre tells him, "I'll come back on one condition: No off-season program for me." Then, what? The players, led by Kerry Rhodes, made it clear at the end of the season that they'd accept Favre back but only if he worked out with them in the offseason.

Well, Kerry Rhodes might not get his wish. NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Favre will meet with Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum as early as next week to decide his professional future. And I suspect if Favre announces his retirement, he'll actually stay retired. Unless, of course, the Vikings can find a way to bring him to Minnesota.

No.

The Packers get a 3rd from the Jets in the trade, that's it. The agreement was that the Jets could not trade or release Favre in 2008 or the Jets would have to give the Pack multiple 1st rounders. The Jets can do what they want with Favre now without worry of having to give the Packers additional compensation beyond the 3rd.

Why the fukk would we give up a #1 pick for the next 2 years just to appease Favre? We dont owe him anything.

Bronzey, that part of the deal was only for 2008. The Jets can trade or release him without having to provide the Pack additional compensation.

I wasnt aware that it was only for '08, I thought the stipulation was if we traded him to Minny we have to give up a #1 pick for the next two years.

Ah well, happy trails Brett!
