BOSTON (AP) -- The Boston Celtics have cut their acrobatic, high-flying leprechaun mascot, Lucky.

The defending NBA champions and Damon Lee Blust, who plays Lucky, announced in separate statements Thursday they were parting ways immediately.

The team said the sides had "mutually agreed to relieve Damon from his contract." The Celtics did not say if Blust would be replaced.

Lucky wore a bowler hat, vest and bow tie emblazoned with shamrocks. One of his most famous stunts in his six years with the team was to bounce off a trampoline and flip over a celebrity's head before slamming a basketball through the hoop.

Blust said through his agent he plans to start a new career working with children on fitness issues.
