Taken harkens back to the cool, old fashioned thrillers where you are engrosse dthe whole movie.

It has spy stuff, black market slave trade, chases, twists and good vs evil.

It must be hitting a sweet spot as the movie theater was packed and there were oohs and ahhs throughout.

Led by a cast, Liam Neeson, Famke Janssen and Xander Berkeley,of one star, Liam, and stellar character actors, Taken, starts off with a eerie feeling of ominous doom and we are soon 'rewarded'.

Neeson is a spy who has retired to be near daughter who is living with his ex and step dad.

She soon leaves on a unescorted Europen vacation (now that your daughter is back assmop, you can watch this movie) when she is 'Taken'.

From here we are rewarded with the trained spy navigating the French underworld to find his daughter.

This is a very cool movie, but more importantly, its afun night at the movies.

Its not esoteric or deep in human emotions. Its just fun. Every once in awhile uts fun to not over thing and just have ablast watching a thriller.

Note: This is PG-13. There is abootleg Europena DVD going around that is R. Its another verison for European market. The manager of the theater where I go, has seen both versions, he said the R one was mainly more gor ein the fight scenes. He said the PG13 version was done where he saw no loss of story or impact.

Had heard good things about the movie over here. Might make the girlfriend see it with me at some point. Here in Germany, it's called '96 Hours'.

I saw a bootleg euro version and yeah hurray for liam neeson and yes it was good as long as you take sj's advise & enjoy it for what it is.

I wasn't able to do that and foolishly compared it to man on fire in my mind. It is no where near as well done as man on fire.

perhaps I shoulda waited & saw it on the big screen cause for me it's colser to 2.5 stars than 3.5

I would have preferred a better buildup for his hatred towards 1 bad guy than watch him go thru multiple layers of them

yeah I must say it was a treat not to see 1.5 hrs of doom & gloom for 15 mins of heroics.

my problem was:

#1- director did a poor job of conveying that special bond between the father & daughter.

#2- again I would have preferred a better depiction of a strong hatred towards a single perpetrator rather than many perps

it missed the mark for me and I just feel it had the potential for brilliance and missed it based on above flaws.

I reccomend seeing this flick though as it is very good.
