jetsrule128
During the NBC pregame at 2:05pm, Peter King said that Mike T & the Jets spoke to Favre on the phone and the Jets will give him "months" to decide on whether or not he wants to play in 2009... Not rushing Favre into any decision... THIS IS A HUGE MISTAKE!!!

DMaynard
If this is true, it means they will not/can not be any kind of a player in free agency. They will have to assume he is coming back at $13 million, and therefore will have to make every other possible cut needed just to get under the cap. I refuse to believe they are that stupid. hoping4ASuperBowl
so for argument sake we give him months, we cut all these players to get under the cap, but add no one through FA because were assuming he is coming back. what if after all that Favre flips a switch and retires? We look like morons because we cut all these players, saved all this money and for what, so favre can shoot some deer this offseason and finally decide he wants to retire? ECURB
Who cares? They are obviously going to plan for a season without him even if he does say he is coming back... he wont be here past this year and is already injured heading into the season... there will be a plan in place for life without him regardless... I don't know) He claimed Tanny told Favre to take as long as he wants to come to a decision, months if needed but the front office has disputed his claim King is again throwing out multiple scenarios and when he gets one right he will claim to know everything AGAIN... Klecko73isGod
Peter King is either lying or being lied to. Peter King has made a career of being wrong about Favre. The strange part is, despite being wrong over and over, King just claims he just got off the phone with Favre or one of Favre's "people" and people believe him. NYJ37/12
personally, I think this is a brilliant move by the JETS. it puts them in total control. it takes away any game playing by Favre. if he had any thoughts of maneuvering his way to another team, that's all done now. the JETS basically told him " you will be on the roster, we have room for your salary". now he has two choices, play for the JETS or retire, that's it. if the JETS give him until free agency, all the power stays with Favre. he then knows that they have to trim salary to get under the cap forcing them to release him in the 11th hour. he has no power now. great move by the JETS. NYJ37/12
per the star ledger... Jets spokesman Sunday night denied a report by Sports Illustrated's Peter King that general manager Mike Tannenbaum has told quarterback Brett Favre to take "months" if necessary to make a decision on whether he wants to retire or return to the team next season. King, speaking on NBC before the Super Bowl, reported that Tannenbaum had his first offseason conversation with Favre this past week and informed the quarterback he didn't have to "rush" his decision. The club said it still hopes to have "an indication" from Favre on his plans by the time the NFL Combine begins Feb. 18 in Indianapolis, which is what Tannenbaum said during coach Rex Ryan's introductory press conference.
