124
There goes that idea. RAIDERS REEL IN LECHLER Posted by Mike Florio on February 18, 2009, 9:47 p.m. At a time when it appeared that Raiders punter Shane Lechler would leave via free agency, the team worked out a new contract with the man owning one of the strongest legs in the game. According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Lechler will receive $12 million over four years, with $9 million guaranteed. Lechler is the first punter to receive an average of $3 million per year. Some league observers thought that the Raiders were ready to move on, given that Lechler was allegedly thumped on a plane flight home from a road game by defensive tackle Terdell Sands

Alk
3 million reasons to stay each year... lol Yeah but there were about 31 other teams that he probably could have been paid the same money but only had to work half as much.
AdropOFvenom
I know he's a great punter, but 3 million for your Punter is pretty outrageous.

slats
Yeah but there were about 31 other teams that he probably could have been paid the same money but only had to work half as much. He probably wouldn't want to play for Mangini, either. Punting from your opponent's 35 really hurts the ol' average.

Bleedin Green
3 million reasons to stay each year... lol I'll be honest, with today's salary cap, $3 mil / year, even for a punter, hardly even makes a dent. I wouldn't have said a single word of complaint if the Jets had sign Lechler to that same exact deal. Maybe that's just me, but the way contracts are going these days, its worth paying just one specialty a player a little extra when he's (1) so good at what he does and (2) such a massive upgrade over what you have.
