New Jets FO & Clowney

Per Rotoworld...The new Jets' coaching staff has reportedly made it an offseason priority to see if David Clowney is "the real deal." Clowney didn't get this chance last year because of a broken collarbone. The speedster will compete with third receiver Chansi Stuckey for playing time. Clowney's biggest downfalls as a pro have been his hands and durability.

I'm not sure what they mean by Clowney's biggest downfalls being his hands, because as far as I'm concerned, as a pro, he has had one slightly-catchable ball thrown to him, of which he made a great catch.

I think it's only smart and common sense that our FO gives him a shot, it makes no sense to keep him hidden on the depth chart.

Great news. I'm a big fan of Chansi Stuckey but Clowney is faster and taller so it will be interesting to see what he can really do in games that matter. The catch against Buffalo in Week 15 was fantastic but other than that we really don't know what we truly have in him.

I hope he can step up and take the #3 role and in 2010, who knows, LC's replacement.

The Jets have expressed interest in former Patriots wide receiver Kelley Washington, according to the NFL Network.

But don't get too excited about this one, folks. Washington was primarily a special teamer last season and the Jets are loaded at wide receiver.

What you should get excited about is the bright future of speedster David Clowney. I'm hearing that a top priority for the new coaching staff is to find out whether or not Clowney is the real deal.

I think Clowney will be a big-time player and WR Brad Smith, who took Clowney's roster spot last season, will end up in Cleveland with Eric Mangini, who absolutely loves Smith. Smith made a difficult transition from college quarterback to NFL wide receiver and has shown flashes, but I'd rather have a legit game-breaker like Clowney.

EXACTLY! He had one pass and one great catch. Do these guys just write any BS? I'd love some documentation as to where exactly his "hands" came into question as a pro. lol

Durability, yes. Where do they get this bad hands crap? He caught everything throw to him in pre-season and from what I saw in TC. Now, he still has a lot to prove if he can be a good WR, but I don't see where his hands are a concern.

I personally feel that the writer needed something else to right along with durability...he needed his and. It seems as though in every article the "journalist" needs two things to say, the and, he can't just say durability, he needs durability and something. So they probably just reached for something.

I'm surprised they didn't say work ethic, or concentration, something that can't really be checked by the fans. The fact that he said hands just makes him seem like an idiot.

Really? Did you attend Green Bay training camp sessions?

I didn't but am willing to admit the possibility that the fact that I didn't see something with my own eyes doesn't mean it's not true. Clowney hurt one of his hands at VT in 2005 and his catching has been a problem since then. It was brought up before he was drafted and it was brought up when he was released by Green Bay. As far as I am aware, nobody has ever said anything good about Clowney's hands save the morons who were running and covering the Jets in 2008.
