Q&A with Bart Scott

I'll take em..

Sign McCallister to a 1 year deal too..

I'll definately take Scott. But Mc is old and hurt. There are better options out there at CB IMO.

Besides that, doesn't this article seem odd to anyone? FA doesn't start until 2/27 and the Ravens still own Scott's rights.

I can't remember a player being asked--and answering--direct questions about a team he's not on.

Agreed. It sounds like he's answering questions as if he were already signed. Maybe he knows something we don't know.

The article was done by a Jets writer though so of course the questions would be all Jets-focused, but he is talking VERY candidly.

True. FA starts at 12:01 am on Friday, 2/27. If Scott is a Jet by that afternoon we'll definately know something was up.

Read something the other day that said Mc's problem was attitude, but if playing a 1 year deal for his last big contract, he'd be a force again..

that's why I said 1 year deal, no risk..

I heard that. And I like the 1 year deal also, but I'm afraid he won't be healthy enough in that 1 year period. His knee issues concern me.

I'll sign Joe Namath to 1 year deal and let him try out if it doesn't cause cap problems to cut him..

My feelings with ANY Ravens defender is that if Rex wants him, I'm cool with it. We can never act like we know them better than Rex and Rex knows what he needs. If he feels a certain guy helps him fill what he needs then I'm on board.

of course..

Nice interview. He seems very comfortable with the idea of coming over to the Jets, and he would be a great addition.

Pace - Scott - Harris - Thomas/Gholston

That's a very solid LB corps with potential to be a top unit in the league.

My only concern would be speed, but I'm sure they'll spend less time ineptly chasing around TE's and backs in coverage then they did under Mangini..

Nobody will be able to run in the tackle box with that squad that's for sure, but we may sacrifice some vulnerability on the edges and in coverage..

Agreed. But Rex understands that pressure is the key to everything. A team doesn't need the big sack numbers, just pressure the QB enough so his reaction time is shortened. With that, the coverage and edge issues would not be as dramatic as the Mangini years.

It still boggles the mind how Mangini never understood that. He was just too damn stubborn and frightened of allowing the big play.

I thought Thomas and especially Pace did a decent job of containing the outside runs last year. They ran into trouble when they were asked to drop in coverage play after play, and it took them out of their rhythm.

Also, keep in mind that Mangini's "read and react" probably had a slowing effect on our LB's because they were thinking too much. Rex is going to simplify our defense while making it more aggressive at the same time. Less thinking = quicker decisions.

I'm comfortable with what Rex wants. I believe in him and his defensive mind. I honestly want Chris McAllister, I think he still got some game and can come very cheap.

I just hope we get Bart Scott had a good price. I hate that fact how people don't mention Darrelle Revis. Like ughhh!

Scott would be agreat pick up. He's an elite defensive player and would bring SO much to this team. He knows Rex Ryan and his schemes - It really would be the perfect move.

He sounds like he'd be more than happy going to the Jets too.

I was thinking the same thing.

exactly. I personally think sacks are overrated. I personally would rather get a good rush on a QB every play and force him to rush then get 3-4 sacks a game.
