Garb
Ha! Drunk posting, almost as bad a drunk dialing. LOL! Speaking of facebook, I created a real account after my niece and nephew told me I was creepy with my fake one.....which was created to check on their "friends." Call me kooky, but I find it highly concerning that my 12, soon to be 13, year old niece has hundreds of "friends." Sure, it could be the entire student body of her junior high school - but c'mon now....I know my niece, she 'aint that friendly. I have ignored a lot of friend requests. I was emailed one last night - made me laugh and laugh. A website. Starts with a J. Guess I 'aint that friendly either. LOL!

This is the most maddening and perplexing part of the whole internet concept for me: The willingness of individuals to relinquish privacy and intimate information about themselves. It is even more unnerving when parents of young kids allow it to be handed over so freely.

Shoot, my sister-in-law and niece "chat" on facebook all the time - from the same living room. One household. Three laptops. Wireless. It's privileged existence, if you ask me. It's also phucked up. My son is 10 and wants an email account. Both MrsBorgoguy and I have held the line on this one. I have a gut feeling on when we should relent, but he'll have kids of his own by then. I would be even less willing if we had a daughter.

Borgoguy
Smart kid LOL. You cannot imagine the amount of daily teasing and madness that my kid has already been subjected to. (Okay, maybe you can. ) I am constantly doing these insane voices and animal noises, which drive him crazy for some reason. Only the more he yells stop, the more I do them. My latest bit of mind play is that I tell him that I'm coming to his school dressed like a drunken bum, who will yell "...where is my son?" in the halls. He swears that he will run away if I do this. LOL. I might just try it to see the reaction from him and, especially, the school officials. Look for a guy with a really Italian name in your local newspapers. My son who is 13 has an email account now but he rarely uses it. He has it primarily so he can email stuff to and from school and check it in both places. But email you can't control, you never know what will be sent and that always scared me.

So, uh, why isn't he posting here yet? As for the email stuff, it's not a problem unless your kid makes it one. Unless he's going on porn sites / signing up for unsafe sites he won't have a problem. If he knows what's good and what's bad and how to peruse his way through cyberspace, he shouldn't have a problem. It's not like they can send spam without you first telling them your email address... (By you, I mean a parent, not anyone specifically.)

(By you, I mean a parent, not anyone specifically.) Not true exactly. Spammers try to guess email accounts, so if you use something generic you will get hit without signing up for anything. I always make sure the name is created so that isn't a possibility (guessing it). Why doesn't he post here? Becuase he is 13 and that is too young in my estimation. Way too young.
