SoFlaJets
Favre's lasting impact Newyorkjets.com is reporting from the scouting combine in Indianapolis, where JetsNew York Jets brass addressed the media today. GM Mike Tannenbaum had this to say about Brett Favre's one season in New York, comparing it to the lasting impact Curtis Martin had on Jets players past and present during his time with them. "I think the effects of Brett Favre will be felt on our program for a long time," Tannenbaum said. "Was he with us for a long time? No, but I think the tangible effect he'll have will last a long time." Rex Ryan as had some encouraging word for fans, saying the Jets defense was "one or two players away" from reaching Baltimore Ravens quality. The Ravens, under Ryan as coordinator, ranked second in NFL total defense. The Jets were 16th.
ZachEY
That sounds a bit exaggerated to me. But it seems with all the moves we're making, and space we're clearing, they're going to try to get those 1 or 2 players, so I guess we'll see. I don't know about the players, but the images of those abysmal INTs Favre pitched--and squandered games against inferior opponents--throughout last season will last with me for decades. Really not too far off though... and Im sure he is basing it on what he thinks HE can get out of those guys... not what Sutton/Mangini got out of them... ZachEY
Leonhard and Scott from Baltimore would be a nice start EY-look I know neither one will ever be what Brad Kassell was to this team... There's certianly work to be done. Honestly, I didn't know much about Leonhard before just recently, so I can't weigh in on him too heavily, but I'm pretty confident that if his former DC wants him here, that he'll be just fine. Honestly, this defense needs more guys that can just cover though. Our problems started when we were spread out, and didn't have enough people to cover... we got beaten on the blitz and decided to stop using it. Hopefully, with a few other solid coverage guys, we can be that 'attacking' defense we've all gotten so rev'd up hearing about.
124
I'd say we're three or four guys away (ILB, S & two Corners), but we'll see I guess.
Ghost
How can you not agree? The Jets defense was dominant the first 8 games or so until Mangini realized prevent defense will be better. F'ing idiots man.
shawn306
I don't think Ryan is all that off with that statement. People tend to forget that the first 11 weeks the Jets defense played very well. (Except of course when they had a big lead i.e Arizona or New England and then sat back and let them get back into it). If they can generate a pass rush somehow and get a bit more vicious on defense then they can up there with the best. Maybe they need a Ray Lewis who can give them that attitude or a Bart Scott. They do though need an attitude adjustment more than anything.

F'ing idiots man. I was as down on mangini as the next guy, but the failures were not all his fault. People figured out how to adjust and beat us. His fault really lies in his inability to react to that, and come up any answer to what other teams were doing.

124
Why would we need three good corners to have a killer defense? Its always good to have a #3/Nickelback in case of injury and because so many elite teams run three Wide Receiver sets, thats no world kept secret.
