Tanryan horrible start compared to tangini

Lance, with all due respect, it's a ridiculous comparison because you're overlooking the fact that Tangini started in 2006!!!

Thus, how can you say that Tanryan is off to a terrible start compared to Tangini, when you're comparing it to Tangini's THIRD YEAR!!!???!!!

If you want to compare Tanryan to Tangini based on starts, remember that Tangini did the following "bad" moves to start their tenure:

--spent a 2nd rounder on Clemens

--spent a 3rd rounder on the Boar Hunter

--spent a 3rd rounder on Eric Smith

--signed bum FAs like Kimo and Kassell

--had no plan B for Curtis missing the season although they knew in January that he couldn't play

--traded a 4th rounder for a bum at RB

So you want to revise this thread now?

i only meant compared to last year. I thought they had a very good offseason. It's very light hearted, relax. It's also only the beginning. hey it's boring.

How much is really due? At this point, these rant threads are comical.

They haven't had a chance to add a single player. Free Agency hasn't even started yet.

At this time of the 'tangini' regime, I'm pretty sure we were switching to a 3-4 with no NT or true OLBs and we traded our best player, bar none, to the Falcons.

This is hardly a "rant" post lol more of an ode to last offseason and really just a BS thread in a time of little news. Last offseason, I thought was great. This one Starts out questionable. it may end up being genius, as i mentioned. It's not that crazy, it's a message board, not the daily News.

LM, are you out of your mind? You are comparing one positive aspect of the Mangini 3 year regime with Ryan's, which is what, a month old? FA has not even started yet. The draft is in April. All the cuts made so far have been correct. Baker is an overpaid, slow a$$ decent blocking TE. Easy to replace. Cutting Moore isn't official. If it happens, let's give them a chance to show what their plan is.

What they have done so far is create a lot of cap room cutting expensive, mediocre players and ending the Favre fiasco. They are now poised to do something big in FA when, after doing so much last year, we all thought they were strapped this year and would not be able to do much if at all.

Calm down, grasshopper. ;)

That's all I'm saying, DM. They haven't done anything yet. It was more of a f^%kin joke than a post. Even the "tanryan". lol wow lot of tension on this board.

You need to compare year 1 to year 1, not year 1 to year 3.

So to continue, how does the dropping your best player, and instituting of a defensive system that you don't have the players to perform in, compare with cutting an average and overpaid TE, and *possibly* cutting your right guard.

It doesn't. You're right.

I hated year one, and year two.

Tangini's first year was horrible, this offseason may turn out to be the best ever, we don't know.

I believe he knows defense, but is a question mark as a HC.

Seriously, what do you expect him to say to the NY media at his hiring conference? They would have eaten him alive.

Anyways, their play suggests they are more then "1-2 players away" from being a dominant defense. They have some nice players, but they have consistently been the lower half of the league in yards allowed and points allowed. I know it is all Mangini's fault.

Why would Rex care about what the media thinks at his hiring? It's not like the defense he inherited is his fault. If he said the defense needs some work, would that really be that far fetched to the media considering the monumental collapse last year? Come on.

Stats can be misleading. There were several games last year where the defense layed down in the second half after the Jets had big first half leads, thus padding the yards/points allowed. Add in the fact that there was absolutely no half time or in-game adjustments and that all comes down to poor coaching.

I think Rex was honest in his assessment. Whether that winds up being the case, we shall see.

I don't think the defense is great, but it certainly isn't crappy.

T-Rex > Tanryan

Anyways, I think (some) people are getting too worked up over cuts. Baker, as much as I liked him, is not worth 9 million guaranteed over 3 years, which is why he had to go. Especially since the role we were using him in is pretty much as a blocking specialist, which you can usually find for half that.

Moore, who hasn't even been cut yet might I add, is an average guard due to his deficiencies as a pass protector, and certainly replaceable. Again, he's not worth nearly 6 million next year, so if he doesn't/won't restructure, he probably should be gone as well.

I love how people cite last years run game as part of a reason as to why there guys are irreplaceable, considering they were both around in 2007 when we couldn't run block worth a damn. They have a plan, and we'll begin to see what exactly that plan entails once Free Agency begins. Sit back and enjoy the ride until then.

There would be death threats. :D

Because they control what goes down with the Jets. :)

His fault? The guy is going to be working with a defense with a top NT, two very good LBers (at least), two very physically talented LBers, a top NFL safety, and a top NFL corner.

He must be going through hell...

Our 2008 D set a franchise record for defensive TDs, had a ton of clutch INTs and FFs, blew by our '07 sack numbers, jumped from bottom of the league against the run to near the top...

5 bad games is 5 bad games. Why our board psychologists try to make it seem like it means or meant more than that...iunno.

I think Rex was honest in his assessment. Whether that winds up being the case, we shall see.

Agreed. We need more talent. Rex is the guy getting to pick it (with some help obviously). Hopefully he picks right, because the guy before him did a damn good job.

You say tomato.....I sat tomatoe.

Your Pass D on a good day was porous. I know. The Patriots Pass D was even worse and they couldn't sniff the QB. :bag:

I think your Run D was not as good as the numbers suggest because of the reasons you gave as the Jets got ahead in a few games and the path of less resistance was through the air.

Teams could run on the Jets.

Maybe Rex will fulfill his bold claim on meeting the President. Maybe he said that to take some of the pressure off the team that suffered through an epic collapse. Maybe he wanted the pressure lifted off the players and put on him. In the end, he could not throw them under the bus because they are his players. Judging by some of the reaction, some liked Mangini. Rex needs to win some hearts on the team and telling them they suck at the press conference was not going to help his cause.

Not an entirely unfair assessment, but I will contend the bolded point...teams simply could not rush the ball thru the first 10 games or so.

Jenkins was simply a beast (almost to a point where the Jets D depended on his performance). When teams realized your point, that the path to least resistance was thru the air, the Jets D suffered on all accounts. Spreading the O with multiple receiver sets took Jenkins off the field, and with no fear of the Pass Rush (or coaches inability to dial up pressure in their schemes), enabled teams to pass (pressure free) or run because Jenkins was off the field. That, coupled with lack of quality depth on the DLine (to keep Jenkins fresh, he was admittedly worn down towards the season's end) were the main reasons teams could run at the end. JMO.

Wait, what's this post about? Ryan and Mangini?

Our Run D Ranked 6th against the Run on a Per Attempt basis. This isn't having a nice ranking because nobody ran on you, this is having a nice ranking because you could stop the run.

Granted, as Jenkins tired, they faded a little bit down the stretch, but if you pace him better next year (Hopefully by adding a nice backup NT), they should be fine.

IMO, of course.

We just made a slightly above average NFL back into the afc leading rusher, were going into the gel year for Goldie,Brick,Faneca and Moore, where they were about to dominate, signed richardson to solidify that and, now cut your best run blocker and best blocking TE(who also can make the big catches)

Last year we were flawless until we smoked the Favre dust and went crazy. Now, not so good.

But, hey they must have a plan somewhere. I feel like Rex isn't even looking at the offense, I swear I'd feel better if we hired Marty as a father/son team. Marty can run.Brian can do funny plays. They're like the odd couple, at least I'd feel like there was an adult watching the offense.

As I see it, we gave ourselves a hole where we were solid, but we freed up money. Some big names better start popping up, especially if Coles goes.

How long has Ryan been HC.

Jeezzzz, give me a break with kind of doodoo. Give the guy a chance to find his desk.

You are one crazy dude mehl.
