Moore Release Official

If you overpay Moore, others will want crazy money when their time comes.

maybe we wouldn't of been overpaying him, maybe hes earned it. Most of our runs were to his side and TJ had a career year thanks to him. I think he solidified himself last year as a legit difference maker of a lineman, no longer a jag

I do like Moore. I've been defending him on Jets boards for years, so this is not a knock on him, but Moore was on the right side in 2006 and 2007 also when we couldn't run for sh1t. We put Damien Woody next to him last year (who is REALLY our best run blocker) and the right side blew up!

Granted I'm not going to steal Moore's thunder. I'm going to call the success over there 50% Moore and 50% Woody. But again, Woody was the real difference maker over there. He is what "changed."

I REFUSE to believe than Tanny would cut a HIGHLY productive guard of an o-line that produced a Pro-Bowl RB and was a NFL top-10 Rushing Team without a viable if not better replacement already in tow.

I doubt they would stick in Hunter or McChesney to RT and slide over Woody. They paid Woody RT money to PLAY RT!!!

Jets will SWOOP in and either sign MASSIVE (6'6 330 and ONLY 28!) Darnell Dockery - being cut by the Bills, you don't think he'd like to smack them around twice a year? - OR The Steelers' Kendall Simmons. He can come cheaper after an ACL injury. But was a ROCK before-hand. He as good size and was a solid vet PRE injury.

Jets will sign a RG. They have to w/this cap space. I don't see them drafting an O-lineman early . An ESPN blurb does warn a good point though:

Beware the $7 million guard in free agency

Those who followed Steve Hutchinson's messy departure from the Seahawks following the 2005 season might be interested in this cautionary tale about $7 million guards.

Five NFL guards were making that much money on average heading into this offseason. Their teams have won zero playoff games since agreeing to those contracts. The players are not to blame, obviously. Hutchinson has upgraded the Vikings' offensive line. But the next time you get excited about adding a guard in free agency, think of the Bills' decision to release Derrick Dockery two years into the seven-year, $49 million deal he signed.

Guards are important. They might not be that important, however. A quick look at the four remaining guards earning at least $7 million per year:

Alan Faneca, Jets: Good player, average team. His former team (Steelers) won the Super Bowl in its first season without him.

Leonard Davis, Cowboys: Good player, underachieving team. His former team (Cardinals) advanced to the Super Bowl with Reggie Wells and Deuce Lutui at guard.

Eric Steinbach, Browns: His former team (Bengals) is still struggling.

Hutchinson, Vikings: His former team has struggled without him.

A couple other guards are earning just short of that $7 million figure annually. The Giants' Chris Snee and the Chargers' Kris Dielman have rewarded their teams for re-signing them. The Rams invested more than $6 million per year in Jacob Bell last offseason, but Richie Incognito was their best guard.

My mouth is WATERING at the possibilities w/all this cap space. I PRAY for no Lewis.

So why pay top dollar for this guy when you're already on the list. lol.:)

Same thing said by Jet fans after Pete Kendall was traded and when Curtis was on the PUP list.

Jets plans = Adrian Clarke & Kevan Barlow

See, now this is an example of seeing a glass half empty vs. half full.

You make an EXCELLENT point, but I figure Tanny learned that lesson w/quibbling over $ vs. talent and won't repeat it. How he handles this situation will tell moore :D about his evolution and worth as a G.M.

I believe in the guy, but one could plausibly see this move blowing up in his face. Correction though, Curtis was damaged goods in 2006 and the Kendall affair was in '07, so I don't see how those correlate.

I say Tanny goes hunting after Dockery

Big difference in those scenarios is they waited until August to do anything those Offseasons and at that point it was too late to do anything to improve the position.

Here, we're cutting Moore in February. This time, If we don't do something to improve the position, it will have been by choice, not because there was no other viable alternative.

DAMN IT!

Still don't understand why you mess with the O-line....

DAMN IT!

We had ONE positive, ONE sure thing, a GREAT O-LINE, yes, any O-line that can make Thomas Jones the afc leading rusher is GREAT!

Why in G%d's name would you mess with a GREAT offensive line that was heading into its second year as a unit?

Let me guess the answer:

"Trust Rex! Trust Tanny! Trust Callahan." F$%K that s$#t! that is idiotic.

We dug a hole where there was none.

How many times did we hear "Mangini knows,Herm Knows........."

You know what this shows: The incompetence of Shotty or else his lack of say in anything.

He must have known he had a perfect line. So he's either an idiot or has no say.

Rex doesn't care, he's all about Defense.

Tanny's playing genius. He had a great offseason last year, except for signing an old QB, we fixed the idiot coach problem, now fix the QB situation, get a Big,fast receiver, and if you want the defensive "genius" to be a genius, cut defensive players he doesn't want so he could get ones he does, like his whole Ravens team.

Offseason score:

idiot moves: 1

Great moves: 0

BTW: signing Leonhard and cutting coles and Baker are neutral. And if a stud WR isn't added to the team, Coles moves close to idiot move 2 and if we use a first round pick on an O-lineman, that's worth 2 idiot moves and a trip to the shrink.

Nothing worse than when a coach or GM becomes a "genius"*

*see Brian Billick and Eric Mangini

Jets plans = D'Brickashaw Ferguson & Nick Mangold.

True. But I was just pointing out Barlow & Clarke because it is evident that Tanny does stuff at times without a plan.

Thus, EY's hopeful claim that there "must" be a plan only accurate half of the time.

So, we can say, "There might be a plan, or there might not be."

is the draft deep at guard/RT? That's all i can make of this. Although Moore is pretty young. I"m scratchin my head on this.

In what round though?

That's a horrible waste of a draft pick in the 1st 3 rounds because the Jets created a need by releasing Moore then. So rather than filling a need which already existed the Jets created a new need which limits the opportunity to fill the true holes on the team.

Difference with Pete Kendall was it was so late in the process.

We have the draft and free agency ahead of us... That's why I say it.

This whole Brandon Moore thing has me baffeled. Why cut him now ? His roster bonus wasn't due till a late NEXT week. Why not wait till we have a better RG in hand THEN cut him. That scenario had NO down side for the Jets that I could see. Tanny better have a plan in hand. IMO this is a terribly weak FA class. Tanny better get the RG he's targeting.

Glad you agree. When you talk sense people around here seem to listen.

agree not agree, whatever, what was the sense in releasing the dude before we had to?

the longer we make him wait, the less big $$ he'd be able to chase

Alright let me break this down as best as I can.

Moore was a decent pass blocker but a great run blocker. He's not a future HOF nor his he a future pro-bowler. We're going to get someone to fill in his spot, we're going to be fine.

AND WE SAVE TONS OF CAP MONEY!

Hey man,

That is quoted from an article. Like that it looks like I said it. You're doing me dirty there 124. (no homo)

I know its from the article, my bad, but holy christ. Robert Turner or Wayne Hunter? Seriously? Wes Welker? ;)
