The Denver Broncos have signed seven-time Pro Bowl safety Brian Dawkins, the team announced Saturday

Dawkins signed a five-year, $17 million deal that includes $7.2 million guaranteed, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter. The contract also has escalators that could boost the value of the deal to $27 million over five years, but the deal also could be voided to two years, $9 million, reports Schefter.

Dawkins (6-foot, 210 pounds) is a 14th-year veteran, who joins the Broncos as an unrestricted free agent after spending his first 13 seasons with Philadelphia. A four-time All-Pro selection who was named to the Pro Bowl during four of the last five years, Dawkins entered the NFL with the Eagles in 1996 as a second-round draft choice from Clemson.

With 34 career interceptions and 21 sacks, Dawkins is one of four players in league history with at least 33 interceptions and 20 sacks for a career. His 34 interceptions are tied for the most in Eagles history, and his 21 sacks rank fourth in league history among defensive backs. Since his rookie year in 1996, Dawkins has totaled the most combined interceptions and forced fumbles (34 picks and 32 forced fumbles) in the NFL.

The safety is Philadelphia

I wish the Jets had given him a call.

I never thought I would see the day that Brian Dawkins left Philly. He is (was) as much the face of that franchise as McNabb and way more beloved.

Sad day for Philly. Denver got a guy who although is on the downside of his career will make that Denver Defense alot tough and meaner.

Plus, he brings a whole lot of leadership to that whole locker room and a young defense.

Come to think of it, Dawkins to NY would make sense. If I had to choose though I would pursue Leonhard over him.

Shame on Philly though for letting him get away.

i think Mcnabb will not sign that 2 yr extension....

He was smart to sit back and wait to see what moves the Eagles made in FA before signing the extension. I dont see then aquiring any talent, all they're doing is shipping their talent away.
