Mike Tannenbaum Appreciation Thread

This guy is seriously a BEAST!

Two things Tanny does is keep us in a GREAT cap situation and get his man when he wants him.

How many teams wanted Faneca last year? How many wanted Pace last year? How many wanted Favre last year (regardless of what you think of the deal now)? How many teams wanted Woody last year? Who locked them all down? Tanny.

Everyone and their mother thinks we're in cap hell this year due to our shopping spree last year and what does he do? In less than 3 weeks he clears us over $36M in cap room without cutting a single can't-lose player and gets us Bart Scott, Brandon Moore, T-Rich (again) and who else knows what free agents this year (Leonhard?).

You want to talk about trades? How about locking up Thomas Jones, Kris Jenkins, (again) Brett Favre, and Lito Sheppard all in the past 3 years.

Mike Tannenbaum is our team MVP (most valuable person).

Tannenbaum has done a solid job. Brett Favre was a guy he did not want, that was Woody Johnson, but he still worked out a deal that didn't absolutely kill us in the end. He's far more than a glorified accountant.

Don't let madmike1 hear you say that. :box:

Never thought we would have Moore back. Great job so far.:yahoo:

You know what would make this complete? If Tanny could get us the Saints 2nd Round pick for re-signing that fake free agent, Vilma.

Nothing fake about it... they took the risk of his agent getting a call from Tampa or another team in his home state and stealing him away...

over/under on the "tannenbaum is an idiot" threads is now at 1 week

what ya got ?

It's 100% it will happen sooner or later. We're angry Jets fans. Easiest person to get pissed off at? The person who assembled the team we are cursing at. I'll say over for now :D

He did well today, now he needs to go out & get us a #1 WR. Either by Trade or FA.

After trading 2 picks for Lito, I very much doubt we're going to trade for a WR. (I've been wrong before)

But, I think that'll be in the 1st or 2nd round of the draft, and our core will be what it is this year.

Not out of the question that we trade up for a WR.

Plus there really is no real #1 WRs out there other than Boldin or Owens that have been reported as available so the chances of getting one are slim. Boldin would probably cost a 2nd (which we still have) and Owens a 3rd or so (which we still have) so it is still very possible.

But in the end, I think we draft a WR with #17.

Agreed. Though, what about Tannenbaum makes you think he stays put at 17?

Agreed. I could however, see us signing a lower tier guy, ala Nate Washington or Devery Henderson. Guys that can open the field.

Im wondering who is worth the 17th pick, Heywood Bey?

I still think we are most likely going D and then WR in the 2nd.

Rosenhaus : Anquan I have the Jets on line 2....

Boldin : Sweet , time for me to start complaining about my contract..

:)

LOL.

Boldin is good, but he is NOT a bona fide No. 1. Yes, he's better than Coles and would be an upgrade, but we can't be fooled to think his production would remotely approach what he has done with Fitz if he is teamed with Cotchery.

As to the OP. I've always given Tanny props. I've always thought he was a better GM than Mangini was an HC. I criticized him on prior moves and Moore's release and deservedly so.

And, Tanny got lucky with the Moore situation similar to Mangini getting lucky with Elam's Pick 6 in Buffalo after Mangini accepted the penalty on 3rd down.

But sometimes its better to be lucky than good. Fortunately for the Jets, Tanny is both.

Agreed on Boldin. For what he will demand, its not worth it IMO. He is not a player that demands a double team every down. Thats what we need and for what he is going to cost, thats what you need to get.

I don't think you're giving him enough credit here. We released Moore earlier than we needed to (we had until midnight March 4th) so he can "test the free agency market." Then, he turns around and signs back with us less than 20 hours after free agency begins?

That doesn't sound like luck my friend. That sounds like something was up....
