The D-Line still sucks.

Both our starting DE's suck

Coleman is a bust, and Ellis is nothing more than average at best

I like Mike DeVito, and CJ Mosely, but he's probably gone

Nonsense. Ellis is still a solid DE. Coleman is decent against the run. I think they are going to focus Gholston on rushing the passer and therefore, will probably replace Coleman on passing plays. They do need better depth, but this line will be fine for a 3-4 now that we have coaches that know how to use talented LBers.

Really tho, our Dline is terrible outside of Jenkins.

Dont be surprised if we draft a DE in the 1st round.

PS: Look around the league. We have the 2 worst starting DEs in the NFL last year (from 3-4 teams).

hey Barton is that one James Douglas Morrison in you av pic?

Seemingly nobody is worried about Jenkins getting injured enough to miss a lot of snaps or entire games. That line don't work so well without him. Any potential replacement for him already on the roster duly sucketh.

Jenkins is obviously a beast.

Ellis is a very nice (Above-Average) starter.

Coleman is a JAG. We can probably live with him around for another year, but I would consider Canty as well. I'm just not sure he's enough of an upgrade to be worthwhile to pursue cap-wise.

I think the big area to improve is depth-wise, a backup NT is essential (Sorry, I'm not buying Pouha has it), and a backup DE who might be able to push Coleman's would be a nice addition. I tend to look towards the mid rounds of the draft for those players.

True.

Which is why if Raji is at 17, he's the guy. And I wouldnt be surprised if we traded up for him.

Exactly. It is much more important to get a quality backup for Jenkins than to be concerned with replacing Ellis/Coleman.

then again NJ...with Rex Ryan I'm sure he will be able to do what Mangini never seemed able to do-adapt to the situation presented to you. If a Jenkins goes down then switch to a 4-3 if you have to

on edit: BTW I believe we should adapt SUCKETH as the ****OFFICIAL****JN word of the day

Jenkins- way above average

Ellis- above average

Coleman-average

Mosley- a lot of potential

Devito- same as mosley

plus we have 4 very good linebackers to help the rush and a solid secondary. defense is fine.

At this point I would say Ellis is average, Coleman is slightly below average. They need another DE.

yup-it's another case of Jets fans over rating Jets players. Kenyon Coleman-I swear last year I think I only heard his name even called -well I could count the times on one hand's worth of fingers. Make Gholston a DE and forget about the switching him to OLB

Yeah SoFla - I don't know what they could do other than stick 2 guys on the line to replace the 1 (Jenkins). Whatever they can or will do is better than Mangini's solution of standing there with his thumb up his azz chewing gum.

Sione Pohau; I saw him get completely turned around like HE was the offensive lineman trying to fill in for Jenkins-get one of those big fat beasts whose jersey doesn't touch his pants with all the fat for a back-up

Our DL may not be the best but it does not suck ! And DL may be where we go at #17...I hope we go WR...but I could live with a good DL....we need another solid NT to back up Jenkins when he wears down...and if things go well his back has healed...but I can not wait until the draft !

Good morning.

You're wrong.

Kenyon Coleman could be replaced (but does not have to be) and Ellis is a solid DE next to Jenkins.

Go take a look at Baltimore's Defensive Ends, not exactly prized players ~~ Trevor Pryce (older than dirt) & Justin Bannan.

Gholston would get absolutely manhandled as a 3-4 DE.

While depth for Jenkins is obvioulsy a good idea, and something we're currently short on, Jenkins will not get as beaten up in Ryan's scheme as he did in Mangini's.

Although Ryan's defense resembles a 3-4 because it usually starts with 3 down linemen, it is not the traditional 3-4. In fact, it more closely takes the concepts of Buddy Ryan's "46" or even the 4-3, in that it usually rushes 5 or even 6 guys, putting a hat on each offensive lineman at the LOS, freeing up backers to make plays.

Additionally, those 3 down lineman usually shade heavily to the weakside, not the traditional 3-4 alignment of NT over center and the DE's in a "5" or "7" technique. That coupled with rushing 5 or 6 will help Jenkins avoid many of the "doubles" he saw last year under Mangini's more passive 3-4 scheme.

Not to say we shouldn't get depth at that position or even upgrade at DE where we can, but this scheme will make all 3 players on the D-line better, in my opinion.

A player of Kris Jenkins caliber gets double teamed on every play regardless of system/blitzing/ect, you have to.

Sorry, but I'm not buying the logic that a change in Defenses is going to ease the workload on him, most likely it won't.

Getting someone who can adequately back him up and actually reducing the workload will have a much greater effect. I'd personally like to see Jenkins try and get his weight down to 340 or so as well to improve stamina, but that might be easier said then done.
