He's the biggest game breaker we have. Any time he touches the ball on ST or Offense he's a threat to bring it to the house. Unfortunately, he hasn't been used correctly thus far. Don't know if that's Schotty or Mangini's doing.

You seem willing to trade anyone on the team for Cutler. I don't think you trade a great player to get a great player. You give up draft picks and/or average players.

no im not... im just saying that leaon washington is not a great player.... cmon now... lets be real

I understand your point completely, and disagree with your position on it completely.

There are currently rules in place that are heavily in favor of management. You don't play well, you get cut yesterday. He's not enjoying any protections under his current contract. I don't blame him at all for wanting out and wanting a better deal. You don't like his attitude about it? I think that's your problem, not his. Because of the way the rules are set up, he has little choice but to force his hand like this if he wants something done. Not too many players carry that kind of leverage, but I don't begrudge any of those who do if they choose to exercise it.

If the rest of the league doesn't like the way Jay Cutler is behaving, or they want to make sure no one ever behaves like that again, they can choose not to offer anything for him in a trade. But that's not what's happening. Teams are lining up. That's why Cutler and his agent are engaged in this plan. It can work.

You keep expounding on these character traits that really have no basis in reality. He was pretty content before his new head coach showed zero faith in him. Before the team he played for at a pro bowl level tried to trade him without giving him the courtesy of talking to him about it first. He's not a cancer. There are no stories of Jay Cutler undermining team chemistry. No TO locker room stories. No taking plays off stories. He's out for himself? What, the rest of these guys are all about the team? You think Peyton Manning is all about the team if he's not the top paid guy in the league and his head coach tries to trade him behind his back? This isn't the army. This is a group of very talented athletes out to make as much as they can for themselves and their families before their bodies give out on them.

I just don't see him as the problem child you're trying to make him out to be at all. Immature? Probably. But people outgrow that. No player's a sure thing, but Cutler's 100x more sure than any QB on the Jets roster or available in the draft this year. You make a move for a player like that, and you keep him happy once he's here.

The rules SHOULD heavily favor management. That's life. When you are the one cutting the check, you get to dictate the terms of the agreement. End of story.

If you go get a guy who uses this kind of leverage when negotiating, I just hope you aren't expecting him NOT to do it to you when the time comes. Peyton can be out for himself too come negotiation time, but he does it on the level and behind closed doors. He knew that no matter what happened the Colts were not going to let him walk so he got the highest contract in the NFL at the time. Good for him. He negotiated a great deal by performing on the field and putting his team in a position that they had to resign him at all costs. He then promptly went back to being a tough team oriented guy and leader.

Everyone keeps making excuses for Cutler not being everything he is. Is he a full blown cancer? No not yet. But they can't keep him or he will be. So just call him a tumor for now if that helps. Actually there have been reports that he has no leaderhsip ability, is disliked in his own locker room, and has poor work habits.

Again I am for getting him, but KNOW what you are getting and be prepared to manage him appropriately and if needed be prepared to manage him out. You can't do that if you give up a ton for the player. Jets need to write in an escape clause if they bring in Cutler. Dismissing all of the concerns about him does not make them go away. THE GUY HAS MAJOR ISSUES AND RED FLAGS!!! I don't know how else to say it. Yes take the shot and get him in here. But no way in f-ing hell do you do whatever it takes to get him. Let Denver know you are interested but if they try to force your hand, you will walk and they can keep Cutler. If so many teams are lining up and you are hearing that they are prepared to offer 2 1st rounders, or a handful of high picks, gtfo of the room and let Fantasy Dan be Fantasy Dan. This guy is worth the risk, but he's NOT a franchise QB yet, so don't go paying the Broncos like he is Peyton Manning. He's not. And he's got a long f*ing way to go before he can compare himself to a great. Hell he's not even Eli at this point.

This could all be very true for delusional Jest fans. But trust me, in today's world if a man (unless he's a rap star) wore a full link mink and pantyhose - people would be bustin' on him. See, Joey, TODAY'S WORLD. Not yesteryear - (1969).

Lordy.

Namath could have a sex change and he'd still make Brady look like a leather-lady.

Dismissing all of the concerns about him does not make them go away. THE GUY HAS MAJOR ISSUES AND RED FLAGS!!! I don't know how else to say it.

All these little intangible things tend to effect a player's draft stock, and they should. But despite all these MAJOR ISSUES AND RED FLAGS you're talking about, what we've got here is a 25 year old pro bowl QB coming off a 4500 yard, 25 TD season. It doesn't seem like these MAJOR ISSUES AND RED FLAGS got in the way of him actually performing on the field at a very high level.

I'm not making excuses for the guy, because he doesn't need excuses to be made for him. I might be making excuses if he didn't perform, but that's clearly not necessary. He's ****y? A little aloof? Immature? Okay. If he were perfect, he wouldn't be available for trade. I think it's pretty safe to assume that he'll play at least as well here as he has in Denver, and that he'll mature as a person and a QB as he gets older. This is a young man who hasn't yet reached his prime that we're talking about here.

He's worth a big package. Two #1's or more. The risk with Cutler, even with the hyped up way you're trying to describe his shortcomings, is far less than the risk with any players the Jets might take in the draft with those picks.

yah, okay.

Hey, I don't think these shorts are ghey looking either! ;)

(I think that kid in the back, the one checking out Joe's azz, may be related to Jetsrule. Stalking on the Hofstra campus could very well be a family tradition.)

why would it??????????

you really think it makes sense for cutler to leave denver for NJ ?

the only reason to leave is his ego got bruised

boo ****ing hoo

there is no other reason for him to want to play for the jets

mcdaniels will call 45 passes a game, ryans jets maybe 20-25

media scrutiny is 10x worse

he won't even be playing for the big football team in town

the only reason to come here, as usual, is money

I'm not excited to trade 2# 1's (plus more ) to get a cry baby douchbag who is trying to shoot his way out of town because the new coach hurt his feewings

do you really think such a thin skinned baby could last in NY ?

c'mon man, this aint madden

my point was maybe the silence from the cutler camp is elway said cutler should get better advice

meaning "don't listen to the bloosucking agent who only wants you to uproot your life, move across country to a play in an expensive pressure cooker for the red-headed-step child team for a defensive minded coach who likes to run the ball so he can get a bigger commission"

maybe elway talked some sense into him

Elway's the original whiny crybaby.

"Whaaaah! If the Colts draft me, I won't even play football! I'll play baseball for the Yankees, instead!"

If he's trying to talk Cutler into staying in a situation that doesn't make him happy, then he's a hypocritical whiny crybaby. Cutler should tell him to go fcuk himself.

My answer is: YES.

Roethlisberger would be the same careless gunslinger had he been drafted by Denver.

You want to run the ball, you have to create room to run. That comes from the OL (we have that) and the threat of a pass that will challenge the defense deep. It isn't enough to just chuck one deep every game for an incomplete pass. You complete passes deep. You make them pay deep. And it opens up underneath. If they still stay in stacking the box, you let Cutler throw the ball 35x.

You don't keep running the ball when the holes aren't there because that's what you want to do. If you have a Kellen Clemens in there, you still have to run the ball because he's not going to beat them deep (even though he more than has the arm). The threat isn't there because the threat is not real. Like when we had Chad (though for different causes; that was his weak arm).

He fits any gameplan unless he's simply too stupid to grasp the playbook.

that makes sense, thanks for the reply

I just worry about high maintenance guys playing in NY. you just know the beat writers will try to make him go "ryan leaf" all the time, and what if he tries to shoot his way out of NY ?

meh, it's probably just my damned jets fan complex at work

Hey, Assmop and Stiller, ever see the movie Zach and Miri Make A Porno? Kind of cute and funny .....anyway, there is move described in the flick. The Double Dutch Rudder. You two should hook-up at this future Jets SB party and give it a try.

Not sure what ya mean there Garby but ummmm i've missed you too ?? ;)

We haven't had a franchise QB in FORTY ****ING YEARS.

You're right, though, I'm sure we'd draft one with one of those two precious first rounders.

We can get him for a #1 this year and next year's #3 & 4.

Quinn and Jets 1st round pick to Denver,

Jets #3 & 4 Round 2010 picks to Cleveland,

Cutler to Jets

Well you proved my point - you would trade anyone to get Cutler and you mentioned Revis, the best player on the team.

You severely undervalue Leon. yes he won't run for a 1000 yards, but he's a threat to go the distance everytime he touches the ball. You will see this more if the coaching staff uses him effectively. He's the modern day Bruce Harper, even better. You don't give guys like that up. Now if Denver traded Cutler straight up for him, that would be different. But there's no way that's going to happen.

Hey if he's thin-skinned, that's not a positive. But being somewhat thin-skinned or saying dumb things at age 24-25 in his first gig is easier to overcome than someone who simply doesn't have what it takes to succeed at the NFL level.

There are entire drafts that go by without a really good QB coming out of it, or maybe one good one - in ANY round - no matter how highly rated they were at the time. Cutler's own draft he was the 3rd QB chosen & he's the only one of the dozen drafted (including 5 in the first 2 rounds and three in the top 11) worth a damn after 3 seasons.

Check out these QB drafts from 2001-2007. Since we need a QB right now and not in 3-4 years, it is entirely fair to judge them after such a short span of time like from the 2007 draft to right now.

2007:

Jamarcus Russell

Brady Quinn

Kevin Kolb

John Beck

Drew Stanton

Trent Edwards

Isaiah Stanback

Jeff Rowe

Troy Smith

Jordan Palmer

Tyler Thigpen

2006:

Vince Young

Matt Leinart

Jay Cutler

Kellen Clemens

Tavaris Jackson

Charlie Whitehurst

Brodie Croyle

Ingle Martin

Omar Jacobs

Reggie McNeal

Bruce Gradkowski

DJ Shockley

2003:

Carson Palmer (#1 overall)

Byron Leftwich

Kyle Boller

Rex Grossman

Dave Ragone

Chris Simms

Seneca Wallace

Brian St. Pierre

Drew Henson

Brooks Bollinger

Kliff Kingsbury

Gibran Hamdan

Ken Dorsey

2002:

David Carr

Joey Harrington

Patrick Ramsey

Josh McCown

David Garrard

Rohan Davey

Randy Fasani

Kurt Kittner

Brandon Dorman

Craig Nall

JT O'Sullivan

Steve Bellisari

Seth Buford

Jeff Kelly

Wes Pate

2001:

Michael Vick

Drew Brees

Quincy Carter

Marques Tuiasosopo

Chris Weinke

Sage Rosenfels

Jesse Palmer

Mike McMahon

A.J. Feeley

Josh Booty

Josh Heupel

This is 5 of the 6 drafts from 2001-2006 (leaving 2007-2008 out since it's only been 2 years). Most of these guys either suck or are out of the league already. What are there, like 4 guys out of 60 (including Cutler) you'd think are REALLY good who you REALLY would be happy QB'ing the team in 2009?

Then look at how many of those drafted were first rounders, or top prospects in their own right, and turned into absolutely nothing...or nothing you want.

Now go back in those 4 guys' careers and see what their first & second seasons were like. If you think you're likely to get a rookie to perform as well as Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco or Ben Roethlisberger did you're really hoping for something that is ridiculously unlikely.

Um 04/05 are conveniently left out.

Eli/Ben/Rivers

Alex Smith busted but Rodgers looks pretty good in GB.

And if it's ok to judge 2007, what's the problem throwing 2008 in as well?

Matty Ice and Flacco have to be in the mix if Jamarcus and Quinn and Trent are being considered.

Consider that this year's draft class is considered VERY weak, but the class of 2010 looks VERY strong, holding picks makes a lot of sense. Drafts aren't done in a vaccum. You can't make a generalization on them like that. Each class has to be done on it's own merit. 96 WR class was a perfect example of that.

Oh and leaving the 2000 class out was also pretty convenient....Bulger/Brady and even ol Chaddy have had equal success or better to Jay Cutler at this point in his career in the NFL.

Come on Sperm you are better than that.

He was one of only three QBs last year to throw for 4,500 yards and 25 TDs.

You know when the last time the Jets had a QB even throw for 4,000 yards was?

1967!
