Belicheat up to his old tricks.....

I got this from yahoo. While I think Belicheat is a cheat and will never win a super bowl legit. I do think they are making a mountain out of a mole hill. I believe they can trade whom ever they want for whatever they want and that's what Bill did. Could he gotten more. I believe so. But, I don't think there is any cheating or scandal here. Still funny though that the Pats and him are getting more heat on them.

Astounding allegations: Bill Belichick did something friendly

By MJD

ept_sports_nfl_experts-79130688-1235969882.jpg?ymatP4ADd5ZDqiwiOf course, this "something friendly" would also be unethical and possibly a gross violation of NFL rules, but that's not the astounding part.

What's astounding is the notion that Bill Belichick would do anything out of friendship, or really, out of any motivation other than winning. I've always seen him as the type of guy who would insist on being the banker in Monopoly, so he could steal fake money.

The action in question is the Patriots' trading of Matt Cassel to the Kansas City Chiefs for a second-round draft pick. Why is this the source of controversy? Because everyone assumed the Patriots could get a lot more for Cassel than a lonely second-rounder, and because the guy Belichick did trade Cassel to is Scott Pioli, his old pal who helped assemble the Patriots championship teams.

The thinking is that Belichick traded Cassel to the Chiefs at a discount as a favor to his old pal Pioli. At least three people have outright accused Belichick of it, or at least hinted at it: Jay Mariotti compares the trade to Spygate and thinks Roger Goodell needs to take action, Albert Breer talks about the head-scratching going on around the league, and Tim Graham calls the trade "inexplicable."

Graham also reports, via Chris Mortensen, that the Patriots could have gotten a first-round pick, the 12th overall, for Cassel in a three-way trade that would've also involved Jay Cutler, but we'll get to that a bit later. In the meantime, here's a nutshell version of the two different ways of seeing the Cassel-to-KC deal.

1) The "This was an honest trade" side. Bill Belichick would never do anything to hurt his own cause, Cassel still had a lot to prove as a quarterback and the Patriots desperately didn't want to be on the hook to Cassel for $14 million this season, especially if they believe Tom Brady will be healthy.

2) The "Oh, this trade is stinky" side. There's Belichick's reputation as a man who, shall we say, is willing to bend the occasional rule, The Belichick/Pioli relationship, the reports that the Bucs were willing to go as high as a first-and-a-third rounder and not only did Kansas City get Cassel cheap, but the Patriots threw in Mike Vrabel as well.

The stumbling block for me is trying to believe that Bill Belichick did something for the good of some other football team. He's going to give some other team a discount, because he wants to do someone a favor? I just don't see it.

This is Bill Belichick we're talking about here. He'd cheat in a game of Connect Four against a poor orphan child. He didn't become the coach he is by doing people "favors."

How come when Belichick cheats, and we have proof of it, he is a hard-nosed, old school competitor who'll stop at nothing for victory and should be lauded as a champion and a genius but when a baseball player is accused of taking steroids, even if there is no tangible evidence, he is a cheating scumbag who deserves our scorn and derision and shall never prosper from his horriffic transgressions?

Because ARod did cheat along with half of the Yankees francise and America for some reason is in love with the Pats.

along w/ half the Yankee franchise and half the players on EVERY team. America doesn't love the Pats, the networks and powerful people love them which I guess is all that really matters.

Is that confirmed that he flat-out turned down better offers, or just that the Bucs or Broncos expressed "interest" in Cassel? Another week or two of negotiations and they could have missed out on every player they coveted in FA.

Then again, if those deals were concrete & could have been wrapped up quickly, no way BB turns that down because he feels it's in the team's interest to do so. The #12 pick is just about the best bargain in the draft. Ryan Clady got a 6 year/$14.75M contract (just under $2.5M/yr) as the #12 pick in 2008. I can't see him turning down the opportunity to get a premiere prospect/player for (in this market) cheap dollars.

Did you see the polls before Super Bowl 43? On a 50 state poll, 44/50 states were rooting for the Giants to beat New England. This includes Texas and Pennsylvania (home of the Cowboys and Eagles, who both hate the Giants with a passion). The only six states who the majority were rooting for Pats* were the six states within the New England region.

The real reasons that ARod got as much crap are as follows:

1) Even Yankee fans don't like him (choking in the playoffs every year will make fans a lot more forgiving).

2) ARod does not have powerful friends in the media unlike Piggy Kraft.

Don't speak for me. I'm a Yankee fan, Bronx born, and I do not, nor have I ever hated Arod.

That every team does it argument doesn't hold water. You guys didn't buy it with the Patriots so it doesn't all of the sudden work for Aroid.

It's really a non issue.

He had a 14 mil. per year QB he needed off the books, an aging linebacker who while is still a great team leader had lost several steps, with a decent cap hit coming this year.

While I think that they should have gotten more, in the form of maybe another 2nd round pick, or a 3rd or 4th, they got a very good pick, with alot of value.

The 34th pick is not too far off from a low first. But the money required to sign the player selected with the 34th is significantly less than even the first pick in the 2nd round.

this basically falls into line with how he's handled trades and off season transactions all along.

I never took anything away from NE even w/ their cheating so don't lump me in and qwe all know most of the league was doing steroids, we don't know most of the NFL was videotaping.

What the Patriots essentially did was trade a player who if they let go to Free Agency unfettered they would have received a 3rd round compensatory pick( my guess) and turned that into an early second round pick.

They opened up cap space by doing this early in Free Agency, to allow themselves to operate during that period.

The Patriots don't need to explain themsleves to the league, based on trade value. There are many cronies in this league who have favorites that they make deals with. This is nothing new.

the Patriots received improved compensation than if they had done nothing.

There is nothing wrong with that.

There comes a time when the tears run dry.

Belichick told the NY Jets to F off 10 years ago. Bob Kraft convinced Belichick to be the HC in New England because the Jets tampered and F-ed around with Parcells while he was still the HC of the NE Patriots.

What goes around comes around. The Jets have nobody to blame but themselves.

You might not have taken anything away from the those cheating bastards, but I have. And I do lump aroid into the cheating right along with the Pats. It's unfortunate that pro sports has come to this. But I really feel that if each league wanted to put an end to the roid use they would give a one year ban on the first offense and life suspension on the second offense. The problem I have with it. Is that some enhancements were legal and then not legal. So if a player used strength enhancements when they were legal move on. If not he's guilty.

Those are the facts

Phone records from Parcells hotel room at the 96 Super Bowl confirmed he was making a deal with the Jets while still coaching the NE Patriots. The debate over who called who is irrelevant, but I'm glad it happened the way it did. Curtis Martin and all.

Well, at least the Pats weren't caught cheating during games, THAT would be bad. Oh wait, nevermind...

I don't think we'll ever know who serious the 3rd trading partner was here (bucs or lions ?)

I read the pats were only 2 mill under the cap, and really wanted to get cassel off the books, so they took the first firm offer

This thread is cracking me up. 95% of Jets fans said Cassel wasn't worth a 1st round pick and now that the Pats got a 2nd rounder for him there is some kind of collusion going on.

The Pats needed to clear cap space and they did it.

BTW: Parcells was on the phone with Leon leading up to that Super Bowl and he broke his contract with the Pats. There was a reason the Pats received draft picks when Parcells became HC of the NYJ. :)
