Vudu
http://www.usatoday.com/topics/article/Mark+Sanchez/04Pa2AD4tc7mR/1 News: USC QB Mark Sanchez to Meet With Jets Before Pro Day Posted on March 6th, 2009 by Angel Navedo There wasn’t much real news about players the Jets were specifically targeting at the combine, but Scott Wolf of the LA Daily News reports that Mark Sanchez will be meeting with the team before the official USC Pro Day. Quarterback Mark Sanchez is expected to perform private workouts for the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts before participating in USC’s Pro Day on April 1. It’s probably not worth reading too much into since he’s meeting with the Colts as well. But it’s definitely worth passing along for everyone who loves the pre-Draft speculation. How would you guys feel about it? Is he a worthy candidate, or is the 2009 QB draft class a weak one? Any chance he’d fall to 17 if the Jets wanted him, or will some wheeling and dealing be necessary if Ryan & Co. fall in love with him? Picking Sanchez up would definitely be contrary to all of the “we want to see what we have here now” implications, but after last season I’m sure we all take the QB lip service with a huge grain of salt. . Larz
I like the kid, he's got swagger and skill and brains if there is a WR we like at 17 I go WR, but Sanchez wouldn't be a bad pick at 17. I wouldn't trade up for him however sanchez clemens ratliff or clemens ratliff ainge no brainer, you're essentially swapping sanchez for ainge

There is already 3 young guys on the roster... adding another (even less proven) one is not going to help this team the most with that pick... AdropOFvenom
There's no way to be sold on any of our internal guys being a Franchise QB, so if you like Sanchez's chances of doing so more then you like either Ratliff or Clemens's chances, you absolutely do so. GFJET33
We're not drafting sanchez, this is just the jets doing their due diligence. If the 3 guys we got fail miserably in training camp/preseason, then its gonna be either leftwich, garcia, boller, or bulger if he gets dropped by the rams. Theres just way too much youth and potential already at QB to draft another one unless its without question Mark Sanchez is the second coming. Huh? How about the fact that the JETS need a pass rushing DE... and a WR... you dont just draft him because he is a QB... he would not even be in the 1st round in some of the past few years of drafting... Aten
Clemens is going to start and he'll probably be fine. I'm honestly more worried about Ratliff as the backup. He and Ainge will be ready to give Clemens a real run in a year. They're all better than Sanchez.

ECURB
Hellen Clemens is NOT the answer. Sanchez is not either... Clemens is certainly better than Sanchez for the JETS in 09'... you do not waste the 17th pick on an average QB... you just dont...

Ryno the Jet
The Jets are working out Sanchez because they have set themselves up to draft the BPA. The needs at various positions are not great enough to neglect the top player on the Jets list when 17 roles around. Due diligence, my friends, nothing else. Starting QB is the most important position on the field and right now the Jets don't have one. They aren't drafting a "pass rushing DE" They are still playing the 3-4 and already have Gholston as a tweener/albatross around their necks. A WR will probably be the pick, but if they think the guy can be a top flight starter you pull the trigger. Why do you say Sanchez is average? He's inexperienced, but as far as tools go everyhing I've heard says he has it all.

faba
Since when does working a player out mean you are drafting him- the Jets need to keep all options open when they do pick right now.

#27TheDominator
He has a "Pennington" arm... everyone calls it "strong enough"... good luck with that... He is not as good as Leinart... Actually, McShay's quote was " He doesn't have a bad arm. He's not Chad Pennington. But you'd probably like to see a guy with a stronger arm. It would be a great value," He's talkign about the guy going 18 to the Bears. I find it amusing that you, of all people would complain about the guy not having a cannon. If you don't think they should draft him because you don't like his arm strength that's fine, but the teams current needs are QB and WR. Everything else pales in comparison. Right and when Chad was coming out of college he was said to have a good arm and Tom Brady was said to have a weak arm... lol If Sanchez has an arm that barely cuts it now... wait until his shoulder gets plowed into the turf a few times and then watch him try to zip passes around the stadium... Um.... you just said the "experts" said Brady had a weak arm. How'd that turn out? That's why they work these guys out and don't sit at home and listen to every ****head Mel Kiper/Mike Lombardi/Todd McShay jackass tell them about the guy's arm strength. I want the best value at 17. I don't particularly like Sanchez, but if it's him, so be it.
Larz
this reminds me of last year, when most jets fans didn't want ryan because he threw too many Int's in college our biggest need is QB. Sure WR is up there, but this is a bumper crop for WR's, you can get one in the second round if he is there at 17, you take him
