slats
People love to whine about Coles whining, but he gets himself paid every time. Why should he alter his approach? I wouldn't. And once he's paid, he performs out on the field. He'll give it his all for Cincy. I, for one, wish him well.

slats
He does? Coles has been overrated his entire career. To listen to you, everyone in the NFL sucks. Coles came into the league as a third round pick, and had to prove himself every step along the way. He's been traded for a first round pick, and traded back for a former first rounder. This is the third franchise signing him to million$. And who knows what the Bills were offering? Probably something pretty decent for Cincy to feel the need to give him this kind of cash. Seems the rest of the league might have a different opinion than you. IMHO, the guy has a chip on his shoulder, and plays like it.

While this may be true, I don't think he's anywhere near worth what the Bengals gave him. The guy is clearly starting to show his age and can't seem to keep it together for a whole season anymore. Odds are its only going to get worse from here. And whether it works or not, it still doesn't change that he can be a real whiny bitch.

DMaynard
I thought he took a big gamble. Let's face it. If TJ Housch resigned with the Bengals and TO became available before anything got finalized with the Bills, he could have been sucking wind. But good for him. I think the whinning was overplayed by the media. Even when he wasn't talking, they told us what he was "thinking". Coles had a unique personality, but is by no means a bad guy. Coles was a warrior and I appreciated that. I'll never forget what Vinny T said about him. He said if he had to walk down a strange alley, Coles is the one guy on the team that he would like by his side. That's cool.

Stonehands
The way he plays the game and the injury history and number of hits he has taken in his career....I predict he falls hard at some point in his career and has a sudden drop in production. I would not be surprised if that happens this year or next.

That's cool. +1......Fans always want their players to play hurt and through pain and in the case of wideouts be tough over the middle.....Coles gave the Jets just that for the most part. He showed up nearly every week, 124 starts out of 128 games the last 8 years despite multiple concussions and serious toe problems and it seems by most accounts was a good teammate.....Just 2 seasons ago he was voted team MVP by his fellow players... 99% of the NFL players are about the money so i don't begruge him getting more somewhere else.....That being said i did not want the Jets to give him a long term deal now with his age and injury history but i think Coles earned his money from the Jets... Me, Personally, I would rather get paid less for and undertermined amount of time knowing I'll only be able to work for a few more years. That's just me. Loyal. SMC
I never said it was a good or bad thing, just pointing out the truth of the matter. Plus, I think people are reading too much into your earlier post. Money is Coles main priority. It always has. If the Lions would have offered Coles $50K more than the Bengals, Coles would be with the Lions now. And don't forget, when Coles wanted to be traded back to the Jets he insisted on a new contract. He claimed he wanted to play with Chad again, but wanted to make sure he got more money to do so.
slats
Money is Coles main priority. It always has. If the Lions would have offered Coles $50K more than the Bengals, Coles would be with the Lions now. And if the Lions had offered Alan Faneca $50K more than the Jets two years ago, he would've watched his former team win the Super Bowl from an 0-16 POV. I don't get why Coles constantly gets singled out in this regard. These guys all like ot talk about the importance of winning, but 90% of them will chase the money every time. You're completely deluded if you think anyone who wears a Jet uniform cares more about this team than the average fan.

Actually, you're dead wrong slats. Fanaca only entertained offers from 3 teams: Arizona (because of his connection to the coaching staff), Steelers (his former team), and the Jets. And even with the Jets offer (more than Zona and Steelers), Faneca still waffled. I'm not hating on Coles at all, but if you think that Coles is anything but a Money 1st, 2nd, and 3rd player then you've been ignoring his career. Coles playes hard on Sunday, no question, but winning and friendship take a backseat to money for Coles.

Maybe Slats took your thread to be a bad thing, but I was actually agreeing with you. Maybe my approach followed by his approach made you feel like I was coming at you sideways. the purpose for me stating that is because us as fans usually get on players when getting/tring to get alot of money but we never get on the organization for trying to save/not pay alot of money. I was simply saying that its a sport for us but a business for him and Im glad that he got what he was looking for...on top of the fact that the Jets still have to pay him guarantee money from the updated contract from last year so he's making even more than 10 million this year. My bad if that comment made you feel some type of way playa!
