I was wondering your opinions on this. ( Because, THIS is the place. Yeah, we argue and jump down each other's throat, but this is where you get the news from dudes(and girls) who bleed green. The national analysts readin his talking points and picking one can't come close to the insight on such a board. It's fun to argue your point, but even more fun getting a different perspective from every Jets maniac in the world! lol

OK, enough a$$ kissing(although i mean that, really, great job on this board):

I was just checking out our depth chart, two things jumped out, I'm sure you know. I'd love the opinions to flow:

One- we got ourselves a 254 lb UFA RB from Michigan State named Jehuu Caulcrick

anyone see him play? I mean, 6'0" 254 is a f^%kin bruiser, that's a linbacker running full speed at a LBer. We could have our 3 headed Huge, big, scat back attack if he plays as well as he measures.

Two- We REALLY have NO TE's!! Besides Keller and our long snapper, Dearth.

Didn't realize what a HUGE hole we have there. So that brings it to:

No QB

No WR's( except Cotchery the magnificant)

and no TE's to block and only a sophmore to catch.

WOW! We have to go WR TE and QB through almost the whole draft.

Here are our FA options thus far:

WR- T.J. still there

Bobby Engram- ehhhhh

Marvin Harrison- 36 years old- Art Monk again

Devery Henderson-SAINTS- This guy's interesting- deep threat, in 4 seasons had his high last year with 793 but 25ypc. cheap.

TE- There are a few, we need a nasty run blocker and a guy with hands.

You got Leonard Pope

and Rex's old buddy from Baltimore, guy named Daniel Wicox, didn't play much but he weighs 250. I wonder if Rex ever even watched the offense. lol Hopefully he has a good friend connection that won't lie to the enemy. lol

Not much there, looks like a WR at 17 and then a lot of TE's

This is what the "experts" got in rd 2 and down:

Shawn Nelson TE 6'5 238 Southern Mississippi- as usual with rookie TE's, need work on his blocking, but they say the potential is there ans he has a frame to get bigger, plus he has hands.

Travis Beckum TE 6'4 235 Wisconsin- another reciever, but a damn good one(almost 2,000 yards/170 catches in two seasons), NO blocking at all, though

Whatta you guys got?Where are the TE's in college who are stud run blockers. That's who we need to find.

or FA.

I would agree - they have no TE. they have a big WR in keller and a long snapper. I started a thread in the draft forum about how I think the Jets are planning to solve this problem...

I would disagree they do have WR and QB - and they will add more - these might not be names we love but they have at least 2 QB that could start and at least 4 WR that could play. They have literally no TE. it's probably the biggest hole on the roster, right now.

Eh. No TE is less of a problem than "4 WR that could play". I'd rather go into a season with Keller + one or two Pociask/Sean Ryan types than our "4 WR that could play" + the FA equivilent of Sean Ryan. I don't have a problem with them drafting a TE high, but a stiff FA at TE is generally much more qualified to see playing time than a stiff FA WR.

PS: Caulcrick looked like **** last preseason and nobody signed him off the PS. He was a major project. I'm sure he still is. Oh, and he can't block. At least he couldn't last preseason. That means if he is on the field Leon and Jones aren't.

Total agreement that we need to address a TE position but I think it has to be through FA and getting a veteran. Drafting another TE would be putting TOO much emphasis in drafting a TEs in the past two years and also we need to have a sure deal that they'll be effective so Keller can go out and do his thing. Plus drafting a second receiving TE would be a ridiculous idea because again we have Keller. For FA TEs that are on the market that we should inquire with Will Heller, Jim Kleinsasser or Dan Wilcox just to have for a year or two.

In the WR department T.J is no longer on the market and past him it looks absolutely hideous wanting anybody on this list. All of the guys (Shaun McDonald, Devery Henderson, Bobby Engram) have been slot receivers at best in their career and wouldn't solve the problem the Jets have or they would've gone after them. Probably the only two guys I would look at is either Amani Toomer or Ashley Lelie, but Lelie is a BIG BIG stretch and provides simply that big tall receiver we need.

Ideally I would love to see the Jets inquire about Boldin and if doesn't cost us to a terrible price tag to go after him.

BTW: Why do they even bother to list Dearth as a TE? Is there some rule that requires him to have an official position other than LS?

I think Robert Turner (OT) also played some TE last year, though that is not recommendable.

No QBs is true enough for what its worth, but it looks like we're going to go into the year with Clemens or Rat and see if they turn into one.

At WR, unless we sign a vet FA then the loss of Coles will come back to hurt us. You can't plug two holes at WR with rookies, when you don't have a genuine #1.

At TE, yeah it's a problem.
