SMC
Great move by the Pats if they can get it done. It's also another indication that the Chowds' criticism of other teams like the Jets for trying to "buy" a championship is idiotic. Finally, I'm not saying I'm happy with the trade but it doesn't make me unhappy. It just is. The Pats choked away a perfect season. Is Peppers going to make them more perfect? Of course not. We'll just have to see how this all plays out.

BF4LC87
If this goes thru, the Jets HAVE to counter with Cutler. There's no way Ratliff or Clemens, with no weapons at WR, can withstand the front 7 the Pats would have.
DMaynard
Jets fans may spin away. But this would not make me happy. Me either. Is he that unhappy that the Panthers would be willing to take only a 2nd round pick for him? This sucks.
Garb
Oh please! The media makes me laugh. So, Matt Cassell is worth the 34th pick in the draft - but only if they throw in Vrable. So, Peppers is the same - sans the additional player? And how exactly do they plan on paying for Peppers? Wilfork is in the last year of his contract. If something sounds too good to be true - it's usually untrue. More media garbage.

Alk
While part of me wants to believe this (mainly the part below my waist) I just don't see how it's possible. I'm sure there is some way they can get creative with the cap or even maybe make a surprise cut.

I can't see him willingly going to the Pats without a long term deal. The only leg the Patriots would have to stand on is the fact that Peppers has said he wants to play OLB in a 3-4 defense. The only problem is he's never proven that he's capable of doing it. Could Belichick the snakeoil salesman convince him that he needs to take a slightly lower price on a short deal to prove himself before landing the big long term deal? aec4
There is ABSOLUTELY NO guarantee that the switch from DE to OLB will be good for Peppers. It seems likely, but you never know how he'll play in space. For #34, its a steal though.

However, I'd assume that the coach in New England will put his players in the best position to succeed. The coach in Cleveland might have screwed that up, but I have a bit more faith in the other guy.

I always remember a play in which the ball was snapped, he moved back about 10 yards, picked off the QB and ran it back for the TD. No question about it though, Belichick would make Peppers work. He would be an outstanding 34 OLB, IMO. Not to mention with Adalius Thomas on the other side of him.

Guido Monzino
Please. So Carolina isn't go to shop around and see if they can't get something more for Peppers? Ridiculous. Even if they don't want to pay a 1st rounder, there are plenty of teams ahead of the Pats in Round 2 that would love to have Julius.
