Sorry folks, but teh Tech Forum just isn't getting enough traffic. :tumbleweed:

Ok, so here's my deal - I recently purchased my own domain name, and was planning on hosting a main intro page, with a re-direct to my ProBoards site.

Has anyone had any success with any free web hosting sites out there?

Also I could use some internetz help too while Im at it...

I could also use some help trying to create some html tables, in which I can place my affiliate ads in a nice, neat, non-annoying manner. Are there any good (FREE) WYSIWYG editors out there?

check out wordpress. I am actually helping to build a friend's site for his financial planning business using it. It is a tool for blogging, but it can be used for static sites too very easily, and it is great for seo. Just google wordpress for static site. Also, it is free.

I would avoid free hosting, you get what you pay for. Also, you should think about upgrading to a real message board of your own, like vbulliten or one of the free ones, most hosts have a messagre board they can set up for you for free.

I am not sure about the free guys. But there are a TON of inexpensive options $5 - $7 per month. You might be better off doing something like that. Crap Daddy is the leader in that group but there are lots of options, possibly dreamhost as well.

it is pretty awesome, and they have really made it easy to use as a non-blog site. With a fresh install of wordpress, a great quality theme i bought that is meant to be customized, and the firefox addon firebug, you can do a lot.

Right now I have a ProBoards site, and since 2004 I think it's only been down (that I know of) like 3 or 4 times, and that was due to regular maintenance.

Do you know if I can use my own domain for a wordpress site? I'll check it out in the meantime though - thanks!

Edit: Effing blogs... :hand:

My work filters it out as a 'social or networking site'... don't they know I waste all my time on message boards?

try wordpress.org. You are probably using wordpress.com. the org site is for downloding the worpress files and hosting yourself with your own domain, the com site is for free hosted wordpress blogs, like jetnation.wordpress.com. The org site may not be blocked. And with this I answered your question, yes you can use your own domain.

Why did I find this AFTER I finished creating my site in iweb? I was forced to design the site using almost all graphics because IE did funky things to all of my text. Now it looks great in all browsers but I sacrificed SEO because it's so graphics heavy.

btw, I wound up using webhostingpad as a host and pay something like $3.95 a month. So far the tech support has been good.

Verde, just looked at your site, it looks great but you are gonna get completely lost on the web, having all your text be just jpgs is going to crush you, there is nothing there for google to index other than those meta keywords which google doesn't use very much these days. Your big text pics look like they don't even have meta description tags.

Awesome, talented, super smart, beautiful and kind. The girl has it all. Her only flaw is her affinity for turkey sausages.

Who doesn't like a woman that likes sausage?

Her obvious flaw is being a Jets fan, but it's also very endearing as well... :headbang:

I know, joe. :( I initially had all of the text searchable (non graphics) and it looked fab on every browser EXCEPT F'ing IE.. it completely messed up all of my text. Since my identity is based on visual design (and 80% of the pop uses IE), I couldn't sacrifice the aesthetics of the site.

I may have to recreate the site with another program.

Have you heard anything positive about Sandvox or RapidWeaver? Again, I need something as easy to use as iweb.

I use freewebs.com, it works quite well.
