Big School WR Sleepers

I figured since there is so much WR talk and we definitely need one, we could look at late round big school sleepers.

My favorites...

Greg Carr - FSU - 6-6 - 217. Big target who knows how to go up and make a play. His Sophmore year when he had a halfway decent QB, he blew up for 12 TD's. He hasnt been as productive since, but if you watch him play, he has a knack for making the big play and going up to get the ball.

Kevin Ogletree - UVA - 6-2 - 189. A Queens boy, Holy Cross HS, solid production in his Sophmore and Junior year, over 50 catches both seasons. Knows how to get open and runs solid routes. Good hands and is versatile. A game changer.

Patrick Turner - USC - 6-5 - 220. Another really big target familiar with a pro system. Had a great senior year with 10 TD's. He conitunally improved throughout his career at USC. Know for very crisp routes and the ability to go up over defenders for jump balls. More of a possession guy, but able to move the chains and make the tough grab over the middle.

Darrius Passmore -Marshall - 6-2 - 188. A very productive sophmore. Caught 56 balls for 950 yards, averaging 17 yards per catch. He has big play potential and can be a go to guy on 3rd and long situations.

Quan Crosby - Texas 5-11 - 200. A very strong receiver that knows how to get seperation. Extremely productive in a pass happy offense. This season he had 92 grabs, 1200 yards and 10 TD's. Could be a great game changer in the slot at the next level.

Those are my 5 favorite late round targets that I could all see having success at the next level.

Any others???

SJ was touting Brandon Tate. Assuming that you consider NC a "Big School' ;)

He's apparently still unable to run which might drop him to 6-7 round or UDFA. Top kick returner (not a Jets concern) but supposedly was surpassing Nicks for #1 option at the time of his injury. Not in love with reports I've read for the Jets (fast, but not polished route runner, relies on his speed) but he'll be in a camp somewhere.

Yep. I was going to include him in the list but with all the love for Nicks here I just didnt want to hear about it. :D

I keep hearing about the "other" Florida Gator receiver, Louis Murphy and how teams are VERY high on him. As for Tate, he WAS viewed as the better receiver before he went down, the Jets were down at a North Carolina game to see him primairly but also were there to watch Nicks and someone else (I think the Kicker maybe?) as well. If we could land Tate in the 7th round, that would be a steal, much like when we landed Stuckey in the 7th after he was thought to be a high 3rd round pick before his senior season had a ton of injuries. Stuckey is going to come into his own as the Jets slot receiver this season.

More on Louis Murphy:

6'3, 205lbs

The Good: Possesses ideal size and speed. Has the athleticism to develop into a No. 1-type receiver with his impressive overall skill set. Gets up to speed quickly and is consistently able to run past defenders deep. Tracks the deep ball well out of the air and has the body control to adjust to a poorly thrown ball.

The Bad: More of a one trick pony at this stage. Is very raw as a short and intermediate route runner and consistently slows down in and out of his breaks. Lacks great hands and lets the ball get into his body too often.

To me he sounds like the Ravens' version of Clayton, with a bigger upside.

He could be had at 52 if the Jets choose to go QB or RB at 17, depending on the Thomas Jones contract situation.

~~~ Personally I say no thank you to Cosby (more of an NFL slot receiver) or Turner. I don't trust any USC receiver since Keyshawn. ~~~
Not really big school but Jarrett Dillard from Rice was pretty sick in college
REC YDS TDS
91 1247 21 2006
79 1057 14 2007
87 1310 20 2008
IMO stats dont lie and i seen some games and he is a good player.
Hes a smaller receiver 5-10 projected 5-6 round.
The reason people are so low on him is because he is skinny and is 40 speed isnt that good.
I would love to land him in 6th
Nice breakdown, but I dont think I would consider Luis a "sleeper". He is probably going to be a 1st day pick, possibly 2nd round.
No. Not a big school. But a sleeper none the less. Small receivers that arent super fast, dont typically make it at the next level. But you cant deny production, his numbes are ridiculous.
i dunno if these are sleepers anymore but my faves are derrick williams penn st, mike wallace ole miss, kenny mckinley south car, brandon gibson wsu
Kenny Mckinley and Mike Wallace are 2 players that I have seen a lot of. Both game changers with great hands. They both know how to get open down field and dont mind going over the middle to make the tough catch and move the changes.
Derrick Williams I would call a sleeper anymore and he is someone that I think we should target in the 2nd if we decide to go another route in the 1st.
Cant say I know too much about Brandon Gibson.
Sorry dude, I just considered anyone past Round 1 a "sleeper".
I wouldn't mind going QB or RB (depending on Jones' situation) at 17 and Murphy at 52, to be honest.
No need to be sorry...lol.
I guess I think of sleepers more along the lines of 2nd day picks, later in the draft.
FTR, I wouldnt mind waiting for the 2nd round to take a WR at all. Personally, I would prefer it. I am having a hard time with thinking that there are this many 1st round WR talents.
And I dont see the difference in a guys like Murphy, Williams or Iglesias and Britt, Nicks and DHB...but thats just me.
Kevin Ogletree is going to be a beast as a pro.
He reminds me of Chad Johnson.
Everyone seems to be sleeping on Byrd from LSU.
Him and Carr are my favorite sleepers.
Kevin is just smooth. It just seems like the game comes easy to him. He really could be something else at the next level.
I wonder if he grew up a Jets or Giants fan?
I still like Ogletree. He's still on the team that initially picked him up, though still mostly insignificant. Might have a big year one year offhand.
Byrd possibly got hurt in a car accident, but completely flamed out after that.
So, I was off.
Edit: Why tf would this be a new thread? I thought this was that until I found out it wasn't.
Production translates at the position, so you're not really going to see a whole lot of big school sleepers. I mean, you're talking about guys flying below their own teams' radars. Look for guys who put up great rate stats (TD/G, Y/A) in limited time, preferably with some sort of explanation for same besides that the numbers are just fluky.
