Revis

OK I know this is a dangerous thread as we all love the guy (myself included) and think he is great, possibly the best or 2nd best CB in the NFL...

BUT... lets take a look at some things... a few stats but mostly just some situations in an attempt to look at him without the green glasses on...

Let me start by saying all of his INT's have come with the JETS in the lead... most likely because the other team is running more...

Now to get away from the traditional stats...

In 07' he had a swiss cheese run defense in front of him and guys like Dyson and Barrett next to him...

My point? Why in the world would a team throw towards Revis?? His side of the field is option # 4 (after running, opposite side, and middle)...

In 08' he had a better run D but again nothing on the other side and LBs that were awful at coverage... same thing... his side of the field was option #4...

So what happens when he gets a real defense around him... we have never seen him in this situation... a good run D... a good #2 CB... Lbs that can cover...

What happens when more balls are thrown his way... does he step up and keep his status as one of the best... or fall back within the pack?

Just look at his pro bowl highlights and you will see that all he does is make plays when the ball goes his way. Im sure he and the fine coaches would gladly welcome more balls thrown his way. The man is a beast of a shutdown corner and the second best player on this team. (Leon Washington)

we have more important things to worry about concerning this team besides worrying if Revis can get the job done...but for arguement sake, just look back at the old Oakland Raiders db combo of Lester Hayes & Mike Haynes...did they both perfiorm well enough for you? We need to worry about offensive output at this stage nore then Revis's performance

Pro Bowl is a silly example... sorry its very different...

I think he is great... and I hope he stays that way... what worries me is that if Rex gets this D going good that he will have some weakness exposed when he actually needs to defend some passes...

This is the age old qualification argument. The classic is "Jerry Rice was great because he had Montana and Young throwing to him". Then others said Montana and Young were great because they had Rice to throw to. No. They were all great and that is why they broke records and won Super Bowls.

Just watch the person play. If they play great, they are great. Revis is terrific and will only get better in Ryan's defense.

In 2008, he had 5 of the team's 14 INT's to lead the team.

In 2007, he had 3 of the team's 15 INT's, 2nd only to Kerry Rhodes' 5.

In the last two years combined, he has 8 of the team's 29 INT's to lead the team. Where is the problem exactly? Throwing it to him more will probably get him even more INT's.

The reason his ints are when we are up and usually at end of game is because he is always covering the playmaker and the qb trys to get him the ball bc thats the guy that will win it, and revis is there to picks it. If Lito can peform then Revis should have a HUGE year, should be his best exp. with Ryan as coach

I'll bet my life Revis will have 8 INTs or more.

If you lose, do I get to choose my method of collection?

Pretty sure that aec thinks he is weak against crossing patterns.

The only routes they will throw on Revis, even in a good defense, is the crossing route.

I have seen him get beat on those... but to be fair it seemed like Mangini had him playing a zone on the sideline and he hesitated to keep the cover over the middle...

I love Revis and watching him play I think he is great... it just worries me that he might be the bets looking player on a ****ty defense...

If Lito shuts down the toher teams #2 WR... they are gonna take their chances throwing it to their stud regardless of who is on them... we have to hop Revis can step up... I think he can... just pointing out that he has had it relatively easy in terms of QBs throwing it his way...

Yards allowed is a bad gauge.

Total defense, rather than just looking at pass or run is a better measurement.

Some of the worst Jets teams of all time, were ranked near the top in passing yards allowed. The answer is obvious, why.

Agree... I was assuming the run D would be OK with this new front 7...

Having a good cornerback is more important than having a good quarterback.

Yes, but if you are going to sew together body parts of corpses and try to bring it back to life with electricity ... nothing beats a good hunchback.

Hey Mrs Washington...welcome to the boards...while I am a huge fan of your son there is no way a kick returner slash scat back is better than revis
