SoFlaJets
Rich Cimini March 20, 2009 The post about Rhett Bomar prompted a clever comment from Frank NJ, who noted the prospect of having a team with quarterbacks named Rhett and Brett (Ratliff). Which got me thinking about the history of quarterback-playing Bretts. (Clearly, I'm just killing time before the Syracuse game tips off at 12:15.) I consulted pro-football-reference.com (a great web site, by the way) and discovered that, in the history of the NFL, only two Bretts have played quarterback: Some guy named Favre and Brett Basanez, who played one game for the Panthers in 2006. Ratliff didn't qualify because he has yet to play a regular-season game. For the record, a Rhett never has played quarterback in the NFL, according to the web site. The Jets have a long history of quarterbacks with unusual first names. Here's a sampling: Brooks (Bollinger) Bubby (Brister) Zeke (Bratkowski, a QB coach) Quincy (Carter) Kellen (Clemens) Boomer (Esiason) Kliff (Kingsbury) Browning (Nagle) Babe (Parilli) Chad (Pennington) Marques (Tuiasosopo) And yet, through the franchise's entire history, the most famous quarterback of them all is an ordinary Joe

slats
Ratliff didn't qualify because he has yet to play a regular-season game. Yeah, but he's better than all the others, anyway.
