Patriots | Belichick denies trade talks with Carolina

Thu, 19 Mar 2009 23:46:52 -0700

Steve Reed, of CarolinaGrowl.com, reports New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick denied there has been trade discussions with the Carolina Panthers about franchise-tagged DE Julius Peppers. In a radio interview with WEEI in Boston, Belichick said no trade talks had taken place, re-emphasizing what Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said earlier in the week about that notion being against league rules

(just to piss Alk and Garb off)

Very hard to accept that. This man is above reproach. A real shining example of good sportsmanship and class. He cares too much for the games integrity above all else.

It actually wouldn't be tampering.

Peppers is a non-exclusive franchise tagged player. He can talk to any team and any team can talk to the Panthers about a trade. But any trade is contingent on Peppers signing the franchise tender because the Panthers lack the right to trade him without him signing it.

No, they cant.

Peppers hasnt signed the tag yet. Peppers and Agent can talk to all 31 teams, but they have to bring that deal back to Carolina becuase they have the rights of first refusal. Carolina can match said deal or accept compensation for Peppers.

Beliprick is like one of my coworkers...if his lips are moving and he's saying something, it means he's lieing about something. If his lips are just moving, it means he's having some fun with a married woman.

Assmop does not need sources. He is a Jedi Knight and uses the force.

Wrong. His sources are at the bottom of the lemonchello bottle. ;)

He may have a point though. I mean, Al Davis is the most credible and sane person in the NFL. Hahahahahaahaha

Any team can talk to Peppers about a contract, as he was offered a non-exclusive franchise tag.

No team can talk to the Panthers about a trade, as Peppers is technically unsigned right now, he would need to sign the Franchise Tag offer in order to begin negotiating a trade.
