What are we waiting for? Leon Washington is a heluva player and we need him. The last thing we need for him is to have a great season and demand more money. Worst comes to worst, we'll franchise his little fast ass, but I'll feel more comfortable knowing he won't be a FA.

I want get this deal done already. He's a player we can't afford to lose, and I really can't picture him wearing another jersey. It'll hurt too bad.

I absolutely love Leon and hope he sees more PT and hope he lights the world on fire, but if he is looking to be in the Sproles conversation he can get the hell out. He's electric and a very good playmaker and a threat to take it for 6. But he's not guy at a position that can't be replaced. I hope we can resign him to a good fair deal for a rotational RB. But if not, no biggie.

I think he can walk and chew gum at the same time.

I think you're underestimating how much work is involved in draft preparation. The Jets have to extensively research something like 350 players each and every year, plus whoever interests them in Free Agency. It's a full-time job and then some. There's a reason contract extensions are almost never handled this time of the year.

I totally disagree. I think he's one of the 10 most dynamic players in the league. As you said, he's a threat to take it to the house each and every time he touches the ball. He's one of our least replacable players, imo.

If he's not traded for Jay Cutler :P, he needs to be extended before the season starts. Unless, of course, they think Danny Woodhead is capable of taking over for him.

I'm trying to figure out what exactly your plan is for our offense. "Don't bother with Cutler, Leon is replaceable". What exactly would you do if we left this team to you for a few years, would you have 6 rookies start on offense every year?

I am also a fan of his, but let's be honest. He's a backup RB and KR/PR guy. Maybe we can use him as a slot specialist from time to time, but I think he's always going to be a part time player. Nothing wrong with that so long as you don't go paying him starting dollars. Meggett never got starting dollars either. But he was always a threat as well and he got paid appropriately.

My plan is to build a LONG TERM winning program, and stop with all of the short sighted overspending to win in March and April and lose in December. I wouldn't make knee jerk reactions and operate in fear at every turn. If you went back and actually read my posts, you'd see I am all for getting Cutler AND resigning Leon. I just won't go overboard gushing and panicking about doing whatever it takes and bending over for any player/team to take advantage of me. That's the mark of a weak organization and you get played cause you are an easily manipulated organization with a LOSER's mentality. You have to operate as you would for any business, and NO player/employee comes before the business. Make the moves when it makes sense for you, and don't give anything away. Maybe if this team would stop trying to make moves to gain favor with it's fanbase and media know-nothings they would actually operate like a class organization like the Steelers and less like the Mickey Mouse club. That lies entirely on ownership. Coaches are going to do whatever they need to to keep their jobs, WOODY has to be the one to implement the strong intelligent tough defense minded identity for the Jets and the one who ensures that the organization is always keyed up on long term viability. I fear he is never going to be that guy and we may be saddled with a guy who just wants the attention and power and knows very little about running a football club. Could be worse I guess, you could have Al Davis running the show.

I don't think Megget is a good comparison. Leon held up just fine as a rookie in '06. He had what, 8 total tds last year? He's much more than a bit player. IMO, he's just as good a Reggie Bush.

Well if we can give him more touches that may prove true. But Reggie Bush has been a huge dissapointment for what he was billed as when he was coming into the league. He's never going to be an every down back either and they need to move him around all over the place to create ways to get him the ball. Do you think the Aints take Reggie if they could redo that draft? I sure don't.

You're right. They'd probably take Cutler.

If I'm Leon's agent, I tell him not to sign anything unless it would put him in the top 16 or so of starters

because

he's going to get more carries this year, and jones is only getting older so

he'll have better leverage next year

it takes 2 to tango, tanny can't just "make it happen"

The Saints? With Brees?

Re-do that draft. Who do you take? D'Brick? Who else is panning out? Marcus McNeil, Cromartie DeMeco Ryans? Can't see taking any of them #2. AJ Hawk? Vernon Davis? C'mon. Maybe they'd have pulled the trigger on Ngata like some people here would have for the Jets, but either to trade or keep Cutler probably is top value. Hell the Chargers drafted Rivers when they had Brees.
