Gas2No99
I know it's not the glory position, but it is a KEY defensive part of the game. If we go the "Raven's route" of Stellar D w/Game Manager @ QB, we're going to punt - a LOT - in 2009. I was a waning fan of Graham. He consistently got worse as time passed. I thought Hodges was serviceable towards the end of the season, but most posters HATED him from the posts I read. ANy one out there in free agency? The draft magazines (PFW & DraftScout) I have state SMU's Thomas Morstead as the best one in the draft? How would you feel if the Jets spent a 5th-7th rounder on a punter? Texas A&M has a HUGE guy weighing in @ 250 lbs. ! Thoughts?

nycdan
My feeling is that 6th and 7th round picks are such crapshoots that I'd be perfectly happy to use one on what could be a great punter or kicker rather than a longshot to become a backup Guard. I think the teams would agree. If they knew which 21 year old kid was going to be a star punter. If Sean Lendata was coming out you could spend a 5th rounder on him and never look back. Just hard to project punters.
Bachelors3
The Jets will probably have a new punter this year as I don't think that they are satisfied with Reggie Hodges. I know from listening to an interview from the Superbowl that Westhoff really didn't like Graham. I think taking a Special Teams guy with a 7th round pick is better than just reaching and taking some lineman who will be a project and be on the inactive list week after week. And it would seem that field position will be important so a good punter is needed.

Good point. Why not ? Even a long snapper specialist who was outstanding in college.
