Rumor: Pioli in Dove Valley - Cassel to Denver??

Hmm, Cassel hasnt signed a contract yet with KC. Very interesting.

According to an undisclosed source, new General Manager of the Kansas City Chiefs, Scott Pioli, was in Denver, CO yesterday.

Implications abound as to why Pioli would have been in the Mile High City. Was he just stopping by on his way back to Kansas City from the league meetings that took place in Dana Point, CA to say hi to an old colleague of his in Josh McDaniels? Was he just refueling the team’s private jet and had some time to kill with a lunch?

Regardless, Pioli was in Denver for an extended amount of time yesterday. The extended amount of time was enough for him to land at Centennial Airport and venture off the tarmac. The airport is a stones throw away from the Denver Broncos headquarters at Dove Valley in Englewood, CO. Correct information on whether Pioli's plane did indeed land at Centennial are not clear at this time.

Pioli would have definitely had enough time to make a visit with McDaniels if indeed that was his reason for landing in Colorado. There is no doubt that McDaniels, at this point, could use Matt Cassel more than ever. With the ongoing feud between him and current starting quarterback for the Broncos, Jay Cutler, McDaniels should be and probably is, looking for a way to still get the guy he wants, Cassel.

The Chiefs have an unhappy running back in Larry Johnson that would love to get out of Kansas City. The Broncos have an unhappy quarterback in Jay Cutler that would love to get out of Denver. The Chiefs have a quarterback that the Broncos covet and the Broncos have a quarterback that the Chiefs would love to have in the fold. The Broncos also have a very under documented case of an unhappy tight end in Tony Scheffler. The Chiefs are looking for a capable heir to Tony Gonzalez and Scheffler is an athletic, good sized solution to that dilemma.

Again, this is all speculation but the pieces do match-up and McDaniels would still get his guy. The Broncos can’t be on the short end of the stick if they do indeed decide to trade Cutler and the Chiefs-Broncos solution would be a win-win for both sides. http://www.jocklife.net/news/nfl/sco...cheffler-21185

It's 2009.

When are these damn beat writers and sports yahoos going to ****in' realize that a GM, team, or agent does not need to negotiate face-to-face anymore.

There's...

Telephones

Cellphones

Smartphones

Faxes

Email

IM

Video conferencing

PDFs

etc.

All of which are used today in negotiation of small to multi-million dollar business deals.

Wouldn't PDF's fit under the category of emails? And who the **** faxes anymore besides poor people and collection agencies?

I only added PDF because that's the conventional form of storing documents in final to be sent via email. So PDF wouldn't fall under emails per se. I could have added MS Word, but didn't bother. And faxes are outdated, but they're still used.

The bottom line is that Pioli being in Denver should not raise any rumor flag because his presence there is not a proper foundation to create a rumor.

I could care less what happens with Jay Cutler if he isn't going to be a Jet-which I don't think is happening anyway. I'm kind of excited about the possibilities with (hopefully) Ratliff or Clemens and an awesome defense without him anyway.

Yeah, but your disregard for subcategorization and technology is far more upsetting.

Highly unlikely that division rivals trade starting QB's. I don't care if Pioli and McDaniels are lovers, a trade like this results in one or both being fired within two years.

I have a pretty good guess which one. It was fairly unlikely that Belichick's top two guys would leave to run teams in the same division in the first place. Ordinarily I'd say this could never happen but Pioli is a genius and McDaniels is a retard and this whole thing is probably some sort of scam anyway.

You forgot Skype. The NFL is laying people off, the Jets are making employees take two week unpaid vacations.

If they can cut down on long distance costs by using Skype, they will. :winking0001:

I have a hard time believing that two divison rivals would make a trade like this.

I dont buy all those players being swapped, but if McDaniels really wants Cassel and offers KC their 1st and more, Pioli has to consider dealing him. At # 3, KC could switch gears and draft a QB and pick up a D player with Denvers 1st pick. Assuming Cassel hasnt signed a contract yet the trade would be relatively clean.

Cutler wants outa Denver by all reports. I still cannot find any contract info on Cutlers 2006 contract. How big a cap hit would Denver suffer by dealing Cutler?

I read somewhere that he didn't have a signing bonus, just roster and workout type bonuses. If that's the case, probably no cap hit at all. If there's any other guaranteed money in the contract, that would be assumed by his new team.

woody paige's take

What was the major driving force in the '80s and '90s? Elway, of course. And I think Jay Cutler should be given the chance to at least accomplish some of those things here. Truthfully, there was some stuff about John that was not written about, but the world has since changed. Although John was scrutinized like no one else Denver history -- mayors and governors included -- it's gotten even tougher today. And Cutler has to live in John's town. Everything about him -- from his diabetes to his haircut to his behavior on the golf course to his decision not to live here in the offseason (which is a mistake) -- is questioned. He is not John

Elway.

But this is not New England, and Josh McDaniels hasn't figured that out yet. He was never -- I mean, never -- personally criticized with the Patriots. He was considered Bill Belichick's shoeshine boy, and he wasn't allowed to talk to the media or to you in Pullman, Wash. And the attitude in New England was different. Despite what those people thought, the media and the fans were pretty easy on the Pats, because they were winning and because the people and the press didn't want to rock the boat. McDaniels, I believe, thought he could come into Denver and overwhelm everybody by being like Belichick. This is not New England. This is Denver. It's different here. We don't bow down to every coach and every player. McDaniels should be as closely scrutinized as Cutler.

I told McDaniels after he got here I had examined a tape of his press conference at the Super Bowl two years ago (assistants were forced to talk before that game), and I thought he had come a long way since then with his demeanor and his speech. Back then he said "uh" in every sentence and didn't quite know how to say what he wanted. McDaniels told me he had worked with his agent and on himself to become a better public speaker and have a stronger presence.

Well, guess what? When I watched McDaniels' interview this week with the NFL Network, he was back to being the way he was two years ago. He was uncertain, unclear, and he didn't look

at the camera, and his answers were vague and ambiguous. He danced through the whole thing and didn't act or talk like a leader of men. I'm quite certain he knows he screwed up, but doesn't want to admit it. He wants to be Bill Belichick. He's not. And we're not a bunch of lemmings here that he can just get to follow him blindly.

Just get it done, and let us move onto the draft. But, trust me, if they trade Cutler and win 15 games total in the next three years, McDaniels will be gone and forgotten, but never forgiven.

He'll be in a Pullman car on the way to Pullman.
