Kerry Rhodes: "Me and Jay just don't get along too well right now."

For Kellen Clemens, the Jay Cutler-to-the-Jets speculation has created a sense of deja vu. For Kerry Rhodes, it's more like a case of deja boo. Rhodes isn't a fan of the Broncos' disgruntled quarterback, who wants out of Denver. According to the popular safety, Cutler has a big head to match that big right arm. If the Jets end up trading for Cutler - they already have placed an inquiring call to the Broncos - it could cause an uneasy tension in the locker room. "Me and Jay just don't get along too well right now," Rhodes said Thursday at the Florham Park, N.J., headquarters, where the Jets opened their doors to the media during a break in the offseason program. Rhodes' dislike for Cutler surfaced in last November's 34-17 loss to the Broncos. In the midst of a 357-yard, two-touchdown shredding of the Jets, Cutler turned off Rhodes and several of his teammates by chirping in their faces. One player described it as childish behavior.

Oh for god's sake. When did we turn into the Chargers? He won. He gets to talk. We lost. Shut the **** up.

Cutler made Rhodes and his D look like ****.... I wouldnt like him if he lit me up either...

Please, we made Shaun Hill look like Elway. It wasn't about that, Cutler has an attitute and one day that attitude is going to get him knocked down on his ass.

If I was Cutler, I would've liked to show class in that situation. But hey, that's just me.

Oh stop it...

Rhodes is just nervous that he will lose the spotlight... he wants to be the superstar this year on a defensive minded team.. Cutler would ruin that... and make it harder to further his acting career...

Jenkins, Scott, and Revis are all ahead of Rhodes right now on the spotlight. I don't think he was talking about that.

No they arent, he gets more camera time than all of them and is hoping for more in his new role as Rex Ryans playmaker...

Maybe in modeling but if Rhodes thinks he's going to be the Ed Reed of this defense. Please tell him to keep dreaming.

+1

When are these players going to realize that the easiest way to shut someone up is by winning?

I remember Favre having one of my all time favorite reactions this year when the Jets were winning.

It was in the Titans game and the Jets were up big late. One of the Titan defenders had an outlandish celebration after a tackle of a loss. Favre gave the guy an opera clap for a good job.

To the victors go the spoils.

To suggest that Rhodes said that because he doesn't want to share the spotlight with Cutler is actually one of the weirder things I've read here.

You obviously ignore the "Hollywood" part of him then...

I know about that. I just think it's a really, really long shot that he fabricated some story in hopes of discouraging the FO for trading for Cutler in order to keep more media focus on himself.

JETS' RHODES TELLS WFAN 'IT WASN'T JUST ME'

Kerry Rhodes wouldn't roll out the welcome mat for Jay Cutler, but he wouldn't necessarily deck the guy, either.

Rhodes was on WFAN this morning and stood by comments that he doesn't like the Broncos quarterback, who could wind up with the Jets if he's shipped out of Denver.

"I may be the one that's saying something about it, but it wasn't just me," Rhodes said on the "Boomer & Carton" show.

The safety was annoyed by trash-talking Cutler did during the Broncos' 34-17 win over the Jets last November.

"It's OK to be confident and talk if that's what you do, but you don't continuously do it at the point where it's already done," Rhodes said. "It's redundant. Just let it go."

Rhodes said he doesn't believe that's how a quaterback should carry himself.

"It's not about his play. He's a good player, that speaks for itself," Rhodes said.

"There's more to being a quarterback than just having a big arm, getting passing yards, and getting touchdowns."

Rhodes pointed out that Cutler's team went 8-8 last season and did not make the playoffs.

"He's not the best quarterback ever yet," Rhodes said.

Cutler has been at odds with new Broncos coach Josh McDaniels since it was revealed the team tried to trade him and bring in Matt Cassel.

"Evidently, a lot of people besides myself don't think he's doing the right thing," Rhodes said.

The fifth-year Jet said he has confidence in the three QBs who likely will compete for this season's starting job: Kellen Clemens, Brett Ratliff and Erik Ainge.

Rhodes said it's unfair to judge Clemens on his eight starts during the 2007 season.

"You can't really base his performance on that; we weren't that good that year (4-12)," Rhodes said. "I think he has all the tools to get it done."

But if Cutler does join the Jets, Rhodes said he'd find a way to work with him.

"It's not like when he steps in the locker room I'm gonna run over and sucker punch him," Rhodes said.

"If he came in and helped us win, of course we would get along."

Larry Bird was one of the biggest trash-talkers in NBA history. I would hope that Trent Tucker getting his feelings hurt by their words wouldn't have prevented the Knicks from trading for him, given the opportunity.

I love the story about him and Xavier McDaniel:

We'll let K.C. Jones tell what it was like:

"We are playing in Seattle. Five seconds left on the clock and the score is tied and it is our timeout. In the huddle, I am thinking Xavier McDaniel is guarding Larry.

"So I said, 'Now Kevin, you take the ball out and get it to Dennis and Dennis you can finish that.'

"Larry said, 'Why don
