Edwards.

Younger, less of a prick, has the potential to be much better.

Johnson is good but and more proven that Edwards but he's getting up there in years. I'd take either of them right now though to be honest, as long as we wouldn't be giving up too much.

Edwards, Johnson is a year away from a slot on the NFLN-maybe even by Thanksgiving-mark it down Jets fans. Even Marvin Lewis has set out a warning

Bengals | M. Lewis issues challenge to C. Johnson?

Mon, 13 Apr 2009 05:48:07 -0700

Joe Reedy, of The Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis issued somewhat of a personal challenge to WR Chad Johnson during the league meeting a couple of weeks back. "In order to get back to being the Chad Johnson that everybody feared, he was a guy who worked very, very hard at his craft. And if you don't do that, it falls away very quickly and people forget about you," Lewis said.

This is a no brainier, Edwards. Both have the same problem, they need to get the **** over themselves but Edwards has the tools to be a top 5 receiver if he'd pull his head out of his ass and just focus on football. Ocho is on the wrong side of 30 and nothing more then a sideshow right now, I don't even wanna think about his bull**** if he had the New York media around him 24 hours a day. If we traded for Edwards and have to give him a huge contract half of it better be in incentives for him to stand in front of a jugs machine 2 hours a day.

Edwards.

Younger, less mouth. He had a down season last season, so what, everyone has a down season.

True, but he's only had one "up" season. Not saying I don't want the guy (I do if the price is right) but I'm worried about this talk about him getting paid like Larry Fitz. He had one monster season followed by an awful one, and now it's going to take some insane amount of money to extend his contract?

Wow, this is a no brainer. Even at his best, Johnson was severely overrated.

Heartily disagree. At his best, Chad Johnson was a no-argument top-5 receiver in the game. He has made some of the most spectacular catches I've seen, showing off good speed and great hands. I've also seen him block (remember his cousin Keyshawn? an excellent blocker). Yes, he has a big mouth, but he's extremely talented and despite his on-field hijinks, he has pretty much stayed out of trouble, which with the double-whammy of being a WR and a Bengal, is pretty damned impressive!

He averaged about 9 TDs, 90 receptions and nearly 1,400 yards per season for 5 straight seasons. If you believe last season was an aberration then I'd take that in a heartbeat.

I'm not so sure. Obviously, either would probably be a major upgrade to the Jets WRs. Strictly player-wise, Edwards would be preferable because he is younger and 85 may well be on the downswing. OTOH, Edwards has one year left and has already squawked about the huge deal he is looking for. 85 is signed through 2011 (with the option) and costs less than Edwards this year.

Let me clarify (and answer the original post). If both cost the same in terms of compensation, I prefer Edwards to Johnson based on youth and potential. For Edwards I'd do a 2nd rounder or swap our 1st for Cleveland's 3rd even. I think he's that kind of talent - as long as we work out long-term arrangements frist.

If Johnson cost us a 3rd rounder, I'd snap that up. We talked about Miles Austin being worth a 2nd rounder? Chad Johnson >> Miles Austin.
