Ainge Absent From Voluntary Workouts

Well his NFL career is off to just a wonderful start.

I know right?

What a moron. You have a legitimate shot at making the roster and potentially if everything aligned becoming a starter...even though more realistically he was battling for the 2nd string...but still.

Friggin moron.

Legitimate shot at making the roster? This is probably the most legitimate pre-season shot he has at being the STARTER that he'll ever get.

Consider the source... while I agree if he's just skipping them he's an f'n moron, who knows if there's some sort of legitimate reason for him not being there yet. I hope for his sake there is. Otherwise, boot his ass right now and at least bring in someone who gives a crap.

Yep. If this is true, then boot his ass. I was against drafting a Qb this year, but if he is really that ****ing stupid, then we should definitely consider it. I want a guy that is motivated to play.

Somehow I must have skimmed over that part. Agree completely.

Hey, if that's the way his career goes, there are worse things to "waste" than a very late 5th round pick.

True. Which would make me feel fine using another late round pick to hope to find a hidden gem.

In fairness to him he does suck. So his agent is probably telling him that the less the Jets see him throw, the better his odds of making the team are.

I think it is a good plan actually.

If it was so easy to identify the hidden gems in the late rounds, they would have been drafted in higher rounds.

You are either not reading my entire posts or just having an off morning.

"Hope" was the operative word in my post...lol...I have been against using a pick for a QB because I am not quite sure that we would find anything that much better than we already have....I never said it was easy.

Now I dont think its a bad idea to try and HOPE to find a hidden gem. However, I still dont want a Qb in this first round unless Stafford miraculously drops.

I'm not disagreeing with you. My comment was an example of agreement, not of a contrary opinion. As in it's not a big deal because it's tough to find true gems later.

I don't have any dogs in this hunt, but from my perspective the Jets QB job is wide open between Clemens, Ratliff, and Ainge.

It's short-sighted of Ainge to not try and take every opportunity he has to prove he can be the starter in NY ... I'm surprised, I figured he would have jumped at the opportunity to prove himself.

Do you guys realize this **** is coming from Florio? Read the Journal News article: http://jets.lohudblogs.com/2009/04/13/ainge-is-mia/ It's a piece of **** in its own right, but the guy was there on March 26. The only thing they know is that he hasn't been available for the press since then and that some players haven't seen him in "at least a week". Note that the article also says that Ainge returned to the Jets facility "about a month" after the season and remained there "preparing for the QB battle. Sounds like the whole thing is a crock of **** because they don't have anything to write between the Cutler fiasco and the draft.

I take my original comment back then. Ainge's career is going very well so far. ;)

Yeah, we totally shouldn't have picked Colt Brennan instead. #-o

This bum isn't even going to make the Opening Day roster. The Jets are going to draft a QB on Day 2 who will make Ainge expendable.

I remember getting absolutely crucified for suggesting Colt Brennan back in the day.:D

I don't see the big deal. Especially since there's still so much time to show up. People tried to make a big deal out of TO not being around, then when he showed up everyone just hid and pretended nothing happened.

But even if he doesn't show up, I don't think it matters. The battle is between Ratliff and Clemens for now, with a likelihood of a day 1 pick on QB as well. Ainge probably doesn't even make the team.

It's a big deal when you're trying to make a team and show a new coach what you bring to the table.

By the way Ainge and TO aren't on the same level.

Either there is some legit reason Ainge cannot be there, or he's throwing away his chance at an NFL career.

Fifth round draft choices usually make the team in some capacity, (they might not play but they're with the team), but only for the first year. The second year you have to show them something or you're gone. The list of 5th, 6th and 7th rounders who get cut their second year is very long.

Whatever momentum Ainge had coming out of the draft has dissipated. He either shows something now or gets cut. If he voluntarily passes on this opportunity to impress his coach, he's crazy. There had better be a good reason Ainge isn't there.

For instance, Derek Anderson was drafted in the fifth round, and he was cut his second year. Maybe Anderson will never amount to much, but he's won games in the NFL as a starter, which is a hell of lot more than most fifth round QBs ever do. Yet even he couldn't show his original team enough to stay on the roster.

I sure hope so , otherwise he's getting some REALLY bad advise at a critical time in his NFL career.

??? I gotta REALLY question your knowledge of the NFL with this one. Ainge is hardly to be compared to T.O. Totally different situations.
