T0mShane
The Cortland-bound Jets? April 15, 2009 It's starting to look like the Jets could be in Cortland, N.Y., this summer for training camp. According to The Post-Standard in Syracuse, the Jets have identified Cortland as their top choice and are in the process of negotiating moving costs with school officials. The Jets also considered Cornell in Ithaca, Marist College in Poughkeepsie and Utica College. A few years ago, the folks in Cortland thought they had landed the Giants, but Big Blue bailed and wound up in Albany. All of this is a bit curious, considering the Jets have a sparkling new $75 million facility in Florham Park, N.J., but new coach Rex Ryan says he wants an isolated location for training camp. Well, Cortland is isolated, all right -- about 45 minutes north of Binghamtion and 30 minutes south of Syracuse on Interstate 81. Syracuse AD Daryl Gross told The Post-Standard that if the Jets do wind up in Cortland, he'd like to have a pre-season game on the SU campus at the Carrier Dome. Presumably, he meant in 2010. T0mShane
Take it from me, the only things you learn at SUNY Cortland are how to make a 1.25 GPA look like it says "3.2" on your report card, how to get into 30K worth of debt while going to a gym-teacher school, and how to use marijuana buds to chase away genital herpes. Maxman
Wait they aren't moving to Long Island? I love this move, lol. All the Long Island fans that were giving us NJ residents crap please let us know how you feel now. Rex and the Junction Boys should have some fun in Syracuse. I hear it is nice up there. I used to have a friend that lived up that way.

It's a college town, homey. Plenty of hotels. And young, hot field-hockey playing chicks with thick calves and Rocky Marciano noses. You'll love it. The Jets have screwed over their traditional, loyal fanbase. Moving camp to Stony Brook would've been a step in the right direction. I have no idea what they think they'd be doing by moving to Cortland. The Giants own the area.

I think you guys were stating how you wanted it. The Jets will show us all how it is when they are practicing a few hours away. No worries though, it isn't like any of us has a subscription based website that is relying on camp reports that have to be sold. Now that would suck. Maxman
Maybe "The Hammer" would like to spend time at the Cortland Holiday Inn. They have a pool: This one time back in the day... me and these two cats from the neighborhood, swam in a pool that looked JUST LIKE THAT. We got kicked out and ran ALL THE WAY HOME. No lie, my friend was sick for 9 months after that. He lost 124 pounds and missed three straight years of school. We still laugh about it today. And yeah, I'm talking about the way I want it, but I'm also talking as a member of a large group of fans. We got our hopes up with a possible move to Queens or Manhattan, but instead we got Giants Stadium II and training camp pulled out from under us. That's a helluva way to treat probably the only geographic location that has always been behind the team. It's not a NY vs. NJ thing. Although NJ does suck. I think they should have stayed at Hofstra if they weren't going to hold camp in a state of the art 75 million dollar facility. Hofstra makes sense but they screwed that up. The Jets don't love us. They will not call in the morning.

slats
Not really Slats. More Bills than Giants as far as the locals go. Hmmm... My cousin's up in Little Falls, seemed like some serious Giants country last time I was up there. Eh. Either way, the Jets aren't making any inroads up there. Maybe Rex wants to take 'em someplace where the fans will boo them at practice.

BaumerJet
You know what else would expand the fan base? Having camp in China. Doesn't mean that it makes sense. You know I wasn't going to comment on this because I understood why he wants to take them so far away from the fan base. But if the issue is based on the need for dorms - THE DAMN NEW FACITLITY IS ACROSS THE BLOODY STREET FROM 3 MAJOR UNIVERSITIES! You have Drew Univerisity off Route 124 in Madison, The college of Mt. Saint Mary in Convent Station (who's entrance is the next light from the facility) and FDU's Madison campus (Where Parcells put the Giants for 6 years). What the ****! Something tells me that it's not just the JETS pulling the strings on this - Sounds more like the company that owns the land, Mitsubishi Estate Inc. (The former Rockefeller Group Development Corporation of Manhattan and Gale & Wentworth), does not want to pay out for the additional security that would be needed on the weekends & they want to force the JETS to pay for the extra security - something that a company that is forcing their non-football workers to take 2-weeks unpaid vacation just will not do. DoubleDown
Things like this are done to expand the fan base... would have been better for them to do it with the Favre show... but still makes sense. Wouldn't they want to "expand the fanbase" in Florham Park? There are definitely more Giants fans than Jets fans in the area, and it is much more central to their home stadium. This is a kick to the nuts of Jersey Jets fans. We finally get a chance to witness our team's TC on a regular basis...instead they move off site to East Bumble**** right off the bat for no good reason. But we get to "enjoy" 10 months of closed to the public practices and meetings, so I guess that makes up for it.
