NYJ.gifLeon Washington-RB-JetsApr. 15 - 7:38 pm etright_corner_player_news.gifpixel.gifpixel.gifpixel.gifJets beat writer Dave Hutchinson expects Leon Washington to target a deal similar to Maurice Jones-Drew's new four-year, $32.8 million extension.

The Jets and Washington are talking, but Washington will be hard pressed to earn that kind of coin. While Washington is more valuable on special teams than Jones-Drew, he isn't nearly as effective a ball carrier. The Jags paid Jones-Drew to be a feature back. Washington is a change-of-pace runner.

Leon washington does not deserve that type of money and I refuse to believe he will get it..

Price the team pays for sitting on their hands on this one. $4M/yr might have done it a couple of weeks ago, and certainly would have while they were searching for a head coach in January. In an effort to get it structured just-so, or take a "wait and see who we can get in the draft first" approach, now it may cost 50-80% more than it would have.

I like Tannenbaum on the balance, but he really drops the ball sometimes. Hopefully we can still get him in that $4M range anyway.

I agree 100% instead of jerking around with a guy like Miles Austin, how about get your priorities in order.

MJD = a proven RB now a full time starter (Fred Taylor gone to the Pats*).

Lee Washington = Dynamic Special Teamer, explosive 3rd down back catching the ball out of the backfield, excellent 3rd down scat back who can make big plays. Starter material? Not a chance. Sorry Lee... you are one of my favorite Jets (avatar worthy) but you will not and should not get Jones-Drew money. I hope you have a long career with the Jets, but do not delude yourself or let your goofy agent delude you into thinking you can be ean every down starting RB in the NFL.

+1. With our current pre-draft roster Leon Washington is our most explosive offensive playmaker. If we end up overpaying for Leon Washington that'll be a big blemish on Tanny's record.

What the **** are you guys talking about? What does what Maurice Jones Drew gets have to do with what Leon gets? He's a nice back, but I'm not paying him 4 for $32M. Looks like Leon Washington knows he's not Chris Baker, but he doesn't know he's not MJD.

Why do you think Tannenbaum was "sitting on his hands"? They have mentioned they'd like to get something done, but that doesn't mean Leon & his agent will just automatically accept any figure.

But we have him by the balls though.

If there is not a new CBA, Leon will NOT be a UFA next year. He'll be restricted.

Damn, you are right!!! we are in such a tight spot now. Leon won't even be returning punts this year. So we are paying him for touches. But, maybe we can find a silver lining

we have to treat Leon as first string RB #2 and see what he could do. TJ is on the decline screaming contract anyway. We need a starting running back to run behind this great line we built.

It's time to see if Leon is somewhere between Warrick Dunn and Barry Sanders(both exact size) like i beleive, or if he is a delicate little flower that will break if he runs too much.

Or we could let the Dolphins try that little experiment, that would be painful, wouldn't it?

I still stand behind both drafting two RB's(probably like #2 and #5, some s$#t like that)

and I still like Caulcrick(or a clone) to Punch it in on short yardage and goalline(Duance "Moose" Crutchfield, anyone).

SUMMARY:

1. We built an dominating O-Line(Faneca replacement top priority) for a long time.

2.We need a top notch back to run behind that line.

3.TJ isn't that guy.

4.Leon might be, but he must be tested.

5.He must be tested here, not in Foxboro, not in North Miami, and not in Buffalo.

6.If he IS strong enough to handle a lotta carries a game,GREAT!

7.If he's that delicate little guy than he gets hurt and noone gets him.

BTW, 4 years sounds about right. Tanny could still work some magic, he hasn't completely destroyed this, and we finally answer that question: Can Leon be a starting back, I say YES, and I point to several precedents. He just needs a Big bruiser back there with him for 3rd and 2.

i would draft beenie wells and get everything in one back... hes strong and fast

I said the same thing a few posts ago. He has injury issues, but little s^%t, like turf toe or running off the field with dings and bruises. Plus he fumbles a lot.

But everything is there. When he's running, he's running hard. Perfect guy for us. He won't be there though. Many teams have there eye on him, including Mangini

BTW, how the he!! did he get another job?

Look..can you imagine the year adrian peterson would have had on the jets last year???? if by improving our o-line we made thomas fcking jones the afc leader in rushing just imagine what Adrian peterson, frank gore, brian westbrook, any of those guys would have done..

IDK where you going with this, but the Jets will draft another back IMO. I would like Shonn Greene in the later rounds.

or Curtis Martin......lol

That's why I keep saying, We CANNOT waste this O-line. Exactly, Thomas Jones? Thomas Jones?

All respect to the man, he played a team MVP season last year, but he is NOT that good.

TWO HUGE priorities must be:

1. A solid replacement for Faneca(a mighty tough job)

2. A Top Notch Running Back. ( I want to keep Leon on the team, if he's gonna start with the contract s$#t, we have to give him the rock repetitively and see what he's got. If he can't handle the load, that contact number will come down and we will finally know the answer to the questions: Is Leon>Dunn? I use Dunn because of the measurables, they are exactly the same as him and Sanders.)

Then we still need that RB. Gotta get one or two this draft. Gotta run Caulcrick.

Get the **** out of here, that would make him one of the highest paid backs in the league. I love Leon but he isnt worth that much $$$ unless he repeats and supercedes the type iof year he had last year. Thomas Jones is potentially holding out and now we have to deal with greed. Draft Knowshon Moreno or Beanie Wells!
