Could the Schedule Change?

I think they'll at least reschedule the 9/27 Titan game to 1:00pm. Other than the Giants also playing at 1pm that day, that seems to be the least invasive thing to do. I'm sure the Titans and Jets would rather play at 1pm anyway.

they would have to flip flop the giants and jets, no way they allow them to play at the same time for TV ratings reasons

then you have the fans of the giants game upset because they can't get home before dark.

I think the NFL will stick it to the jets here, and try to make it up to them next year

Hey, they haven't been that bad.

The yahoos in the JI thread were throwing out the N-z- word and H word. Both sides of the argument over there were total scumbags.

Moving the Jet game to 1 pm on YK is the best bet.

i havent read JI today.. i dont think i will go there and log in and get involved with that battle! it has been forever since i have been there...

i just wish people would remember to read what they wrote before they submit reply. i know i have made that mistake .. :D OY!

interesting that Woody wrote a letter to Goodell .

we shall see what happens..

Yeah, it's not a thread worth reading. The NFL admitted it screwed up.

What I had to laugh at is that the guy at the NFL would made the mistake AND admitted the mistake is named Katz.

Since when is it acceptable to request that entertainment be put on hold so you can atone for your sins? Should TV shows not air simply for fear the Jews might miss out? Hell, how about a country wide blackout of electricity so non Jewish people can't have the fun that Jewish people need to miss out on for religious purposes. If the holiday is meant to reflect and atone for sins, then it seems the last thing in the world you should be worried about is whether you miss a Jets game. Just my 2 cents. Religion and sports have no bearing on each other, nor should they consider each other when making scheduling decisions.

Last time I checked, my business and academic year gets rescheduled so you can celebrate your own holidays, of which I personally could care less about (not to mention the ****ing music blasting in my ears for a month, or the chocolate bunnies in April). So please, spare me the notion that a religious minority requesting a simple courtesy from the majority is such an outlandish and shocking concept.

At the end of the day who cares? Are they gonna change the schedule based on what a Christian wants, or what a Muslim Wants, so why should the JEws get special treatment. Just stay home & watch it on tv if its such a big deal. Religion and sports shouldnt mix imo. I do agree that the NFL seems to have it in for the JETS, and always give preferential treatment to other teams.

Nice false equivalence. If you're really going to spout off and act like there isn't a stronger Jewish contingency in NY than anywhere else in the world sans Israel, I don't know what to tell you. Logically, it's not even close to mixing religion into sports, it's basic common sense in regards to your fan base. Cultural considerations in regards to 78,000 people sitting in a football stadium should sure as sh-t be made if they're a large enough percentage of those holding the tickets. It's called good business.

I dunno, past experiences on the interwebz have proven that not everyone is in on the joke sometimes, (cough! political forum! cough!).

LOL. I was thinking the same thing.

Your edit saved me from a witty response concerning the Spanish Inquisition. :D

I made mention of this yesterday. While I don't agree with the 'kow-tow' idea, it's a no-brainer given the demographics. It's not about folks' choice to turn on a TV or not. It's about some season ticket holders having to flush two games down the toilet, or one at the least. Bad decision making from a business point of view, especially since we're getting azz raped on PSL's far more so than Giants fans, while we're at it. You know, the Giants, a team I love to hate that won a Super Bowl a year and a half ago while Jets fans haven't seen one since 10,000 B.C.

The biggest possible change the NFL could do is to switch the Tennessee game from 4:15pm to 1pm, thats it. That is the only thing Woody Johnson requested in his letter to the Commish tonight as well.

We'll see what happens.

I for one hope nothing changes.

Considering the demographics of both the Jets & Giants fan base and the fact that it's the NFL that screwed up here, the league might bite the bullet and work with the networks to make an exception to the Jets/Giants exclusivity clause in this case and schedule both games for 1:00pm.

Doesn't effect me as I'm not Jewish, but I can understand if they made the decision to change it up.

We'll see.

This is absurd!!! The Jets play on Sundays every September, always have. Cant move the games to Saturday cuz they have college games.

The 2 holidays happen during every season. Nobody complains when they play on Christmas.

We all have the right to observe our religion, but the fans religion should not dictate when the NFL schedules games.

A bit Different don't ya think...

mass takes 1 hour of day...Xmas is a big celebration...Family, Food and

Football always seems to go together.

If XMAS mass took 24 hours , i doubt the NFL would schedule games on this day.

It does take 24 hours because everyone celebrates differently. How many open their own presents and then go to relatives, in-laws or friends and open more?

No sport can appease everyone's religious beliefs all the time. You do your best to appease the majority.

at family events....i welcome football on TV....just like thanksgiving

the players are more affected than the fans IMO

Here's the error to your logic:

The reason the NFL does not have games start on Sundays until 1:00 PM is historically because it did not & still does not wish to interfere with SUNDAY SERVICES on the East Coast!

They end around 12:30 PM.

So answer me why Christianity again has the right to take control of the NFL & not any other religious belief?

Really? The games start at 10am on the west coast. So I guess the NFL only cares about the east coast catholics. Furthermore, if Christmas falls on a Sunday none of the games are ever moved. Period. I highly doubt any god of any religion had it in mind that it's ok to shift fun around the time for atoning for sins. You realize that is basically saying "hey I want to be religious, I'd just rather do it when it's convenient".

Christmas may seem like that now because it has been commercialized and become more of a holiday for corporate profit in the eyes of most casual practicing catholics. Ask any devout catholics and I suspect they'd beg to differ. Casual/non practicing Jews will probably not really care and go to the game. Devout ones will miss out. Just as casual catholics will probably go to a game on Christmas, where as devout catholics wouldn't dream of it.

I understand all that

Catholics can always go on sat night or do Xmas eve mass, this is one

advantage we have...there is also a last chance mass late sunday nite

Right, and again that's to appease the casual catholics that of course still make donations, wink wink. We are talking about devout Jews, so it is only fair to compare them to devout christians. A devout Christian is not even going to consider an NFL game on Christmas. Period.

I hate 4pm games too... how come the Jets and the NFL dont take into consideration the Jets fans who live 4 hours away like me... I'll be lucky to be home by 1am.

Because there arn't a lot of diehard Jet fans that live in Massachusetts that make the trip for all 8 home games.

Well... maybe there would be if they didnt schedule f#cking 4pm games.... or preseason games on a Friday night AND a Thursday night.

Thats it. Im sick of their s#it. Im not buying season tickets ever again after this season.

They've pissed me off too much.

When you have season tickets which cost thousands of dollars and you have to miss a quarter of the games because of religious observances it is a big deal.

That makes plenty of sense.

HOWEVER, the more I think about it, I'm wondering, what exactly *do* Jewish fans expect? Did they realize that these holidays both fell on Sunday and if so what were they expecting the NFL to do? Did they expect that every game for those two weeks would be schedule at 1PM just to accommodate them? Or did they expect them to move all games to Saturday, what?

Also I understand that the New York Metro probably has the most Jews nationwide but what about those in Denver, Arizona, Minnesota, etc.? Should they host the games those weeks just so the teams of Jews in big cities don't have to? Where's the justice in that?

No. They wanted SOME consideration. And they received none.

They obviously couldnt move the games to a different day. But why 4pm on a very holy holiday that MOST Jews find extremely important?

Why 2 straight home games on Jewish holidays? Why didnt Jewish Giants fans get screwed?

Yes.. its just a game. Yes its not the end of the world if you miss a game.

Only thing I cant grasp is why so many people are upset about Jewish people complaining. Is it lack of compassion? I dont know. This issue means nothing to me. But I put myself in the shoes of a Jewish fan (a bunch of who sit around me and will be missed) and understand why they would be upset at not receiving any consideration at all. There is no reason in the world we had to be home those 2 weeks. None. 1 week? Sure. Not both.

Don't laugh but I really believe what Craig Carton had to say about this.

His thought was that the Giants called and got their request but the Jets never realized it so they never called and hence, they didn't get it.

Just think about it for a second. As much as the NFL may have a bias against the Jets they still do not want to make one of their top owners look like a dope that didn't realize how many Jews make up his fan base.

Plus the explanation, what was it... the call "didn't go through"? WTF is that supposed to mean? What the hell did the Jets do, they only called once, got a busy signal and never bothered to call again? There's only 32 teams in the league that could call him last time I checked, we couldn't get in touch?

Yes.. its just a game. Yes its not the end of the world if you miss a game.

I'm not a season ticket guy so I don't know how this works, I'm not sure whether people already forked over the cash for their tickets but if they did then yeah that sucks. Observant Jews should not have to pay for those tickets or they should work something special out with them. That's definitely not cool.

Absolutely, 1 and 1 that's fine. What I'm confused about is that the NFL never realized on its own that this could be a problem. They should have seen it coming. But now because the schedule has been released it makes it so much harder to work around this. And don't forget there are Jews in places besides New York! If we're gonna consider the NY ones we should at least take the others into consideration.

That's some serious conspiracy theory you got there Agent Mulder.

Right, every ticket holder that doesn't want to go to a game for various reasons should just call up and claim religious conflict when they can't make a game.

Because the NFL rightfully does not take religion into the equation. Life is about choices people. Watching or attending an NFL game is a luxury. If it happens to fall on a holiday that requires you to give up luxuries for a certain time period then give them up. Don't ask for them to be moved around so you don't have to give up too many luxuries. Seriously, when you pray do you say "hey god, I know you want me to take some time to atone for my sins and reflect but it happens to fall on a Jets game. Do you mind if I move all my fun activities around so I don't have to sacrifice too much while I make time for you?"

Not to mention there are catholics on the west coast where games begin at 10am. Shall we start playing games on Tuesdays at noon or will we be interfering with the Muslim prayer time as well?
