TampaBayJetsFan85
Rex Ryan is going to turn Gholston into the type of pass rusher that Suggs became with the Ravens from the outside, thanks to a GREAT 1-2 Punch at LB with Ray Lewis and Bart Scott with a tough NT is Ngatta on the D-Line and now with Gholston from the outside...Rex Ryan will let this man along with the athlete that he is and simply... "Pin his ears back" and focus on rushing the QB in obvious passing situations because Rex Ryan also has a tough 1-2 Punch here in NY @ LB with David Harris and Bart Scott with a top 3 NT on the D-Line that goes by the name of Kris Jenkins. All the pieces are in place for this Jets front 7 to turn into an elite Swaggerlicious Defense and lets not forget that Rex Ryan also has players like Calvin Pace and Bryan Thomas that can cause problems for opposing O's while making some things happen for this front 7. Our Secondary will be known as a secondary that is full of young talent, potential and ability to ball hawk with the best of em because of players such as Revis, Rhodes, Sheppard, Lowery and Leonard/Elam may come into their own here in 09. Revis can be our McCalister but Revis is the obvious better talent, Rhodes can be something like our Ed Reed, Sheppard can be our Rolle if he stays healthy and Lowery can make for a solid Nickel/Dime back... And something tells me that Elam/Leondard will make some plays and hold down the "other" S postion. Playoffs...Here we come. AFC East along with Tom Brady and T.O...Get ready because something tells me Pennington wont last against this Defense, Brady will feel the impact of missing last season, Trent Edwards will turn into J.P Lossman and T.O will bitch and moan all year because our D is just so damn freaking Swaggerlicious
The Gun Of Bavaria
I'm really really really (A lot of really's) interested to see what Gholston does this year. I for one, despite my chronic (Easy Blackout) cynicism, wants to see this guy get with it and start murdering people on the field.

If anyone can bring the talent and overall potential out of a young prospect it's Rex Ryan in terms of showing a player how to play at an elite level under a 3-4 scheme and system. Rex Ryan is more than just X's and O's on the defensive side of the ball, he's actually like a Kiffin from Tampa and their "Tampa 2" This man is a coach and a coach is a choach who is supposed to actually "Coach" his players and use "Words and knowledge" to explain to them. Rex Ryan can do all of that...Plus more. Something Mangini never did.

Hard to say anything good about the kid without the army of whiny, jilted fans who are mad they didn't get immediate results from the kid jump all over you, but whatever. The kid has talent and plenty of ability. After learning the position last year, and being more familiar with playing as a LB, he should be more comfortable with the change and Rex's defense is actually a lot more like what he was doing in college in where he was just set up from different points on the field. We should see a lot better results this year.

These were not technique issues, these were not scheme issues, and these were not size/strength/speed or ability issues. Gholston sucked last year because Gholston didn't want to play football. There's no doubt that Ryan has a much better ability (IMHO) to develop a player like Gholston and integrate him into the defense, to his best, suited abilities. After hearing the Mangina drama come to the surface after he left, I often wonder if anyone ever tried to bring him along.

If Jet fans ran a franchise...A QB like #4 would have never of had a chance to become Favre because we would have sent his ass packing over to the AFL years ago. Gholston is a beast...He was an animal on Saturdays in terms of rushing the QB for Ohio State and believe me you...This Gholston kid will be a HUGE part of our defense sooner than later

It's calling...BEING CONFUSED and when a player isnt confident in a new system...It's kinda hard to see his "Heart"

But how was he "confused" when he was getting jacked up by every mediocre offensive tackle he lined up against on the pass rush?

TampaBayJetsFan85
Flash back to five years ago... how can you compare a DT to an OLB? lol Horrid try. First of all...Robertson was supposed to be the next "Sapp" and since when did Sapp play a role of a 3-4 NT while dominating with the Bucs? Sapp has always been a 4-3 DT...Not a 3-4 NT. Robertson was a 4-3 DT with Kentucky and when Mangini had Robertson playing the 3-4 NT it just wasnt going to work. And since when did Gholston have bad knees? Roberson has horrid knees dude. Gholston is made for the OLB position in a 3-4 Defense Robertson was never a 3-4 NT...Never. But Mangini had Robertson TRYING to play the role of a "3-4 NT" when we drafted him to become a solid 4-3 DT

NFLs StepChild
F*<KING DROBBERY!!! I never understood why he wasn't tried at DE. It was clear he had no place in the 3-4, but if he had a shot at sticking I always thought it was at DE. But then again Eric thought VIlma at 220 lbs was big enough to try to play ILB soooooo..... 3 guys he should have come in and dispatched imo were Vilma who at the time had through the roof trade value. Drob, who had some trade value. And CP who needed to go and Eric should have known better than anyone else how Chad just couldn't get it done anymore against top teams. Eric's giggest failures were being too soft and playing it all far too conservatively in everything he did. He always waited far too long to make a move. In his game management as well as his day to day management. He never had the conviction to make the decision and stand behind it. You mutha******* why you gotta bring up old sh:t???/
