For any recent quitters out there, how long til I freak the **** out?

go to Target and get the patch Kleck or you'll be smoking again tomorrow. The Target patch stays on better than the Nicoderm one-it's almost like a band aid and doesn't burn as much. A lot of people put them on their upper arm but I've found they stay better and work better on your back beneath your ribs-I'm wearing one as I type this.

Oh yea get the 25 miligram one.

There's a winning testimonial!

No patch for me. Everyone I know who has successfully quit did it cold turkey.

I was lucky in a way, I quit with my wife when we found out she was pregnant. I really had no choice, so I just did it cold turkey. I knew ifI didn't support her, I was in a heap o trouble :P

the toughest part for me was I conditioned myself to smoke in the car. I got in the car, and reached for the pack that wasn't there, 100 times.

recognize your conditioning, and plan ahead, like put notes for yourself, stuff like that

do you have kids ? try a pic of them, and remind yourself to be alive when they get married

good luck !!!!

Good luck man. My father just quit, and after the first withdrawal in the first couple of days, another hits around the 2 week mark. It's considerably worse, haha. After that (as far as I can tell so far) it starts getting better.

Stick with it man! He used some meds the doc prescribed to help ween him off before he dropped them completely...but I know some of the other stuff works well too

Good luck Kleck and SFJ. You guys can do it. Think about your loved ones seeing you in an iron lung or after cancer or heart surgery.

the worst time for me BG is at work on my breaks between sets I sit outside mostly alone and that's when I want a cig....still

It's true though. I quit almost 2 years ago and am still lugging around the equivalent of a 4 year old child.

Don't know if its possible for me to get much fatter than I currently am.

I'm gonna lose weight too. I'm going to be better than you in every way Chan. In fact, that is my new goal in life - to be superior to you in every way. Shouldn't take long to accomplish. :box:

You can do it. Just think about being around for all those beautiful grand kids you have. People would kill to be in your shoes. Don't throw away seeing them grow up for stupid cigarettes.

Way to set your standards high. Nothing like dreaming to be '2nd Worst'.

Seriously though, get gum, and lots of it. Certainly Nicotine is the larger, physical component of the addiction, but there's also the psychological addiction to the process. You've probably spent a lot of your life with the habit of stepping out for a smoke, which likely has created a degree of oral fixation. Since you already suck a ton of dick, this wont be a way to replace the need to smoke. Gum can work like that. Instead of going out for a smoke, crew a piece of gum. It's a poor substitute for the nicotine, but can help with breaking the habitual aspects of smoking.

Good luck Kleck -

16 months ago for me and I wasn't a casual smoker. After 30 days the cravings greatly subsided - but till then - they wont be as bad tomorrow as they were today. Every day should get a little easier. The metabolic change was something I didn't figure on but is VERY real after theres no nicotine in your system. Without eating a whole lot more I put on weight pretty quickly. Still getting the handle on that and I've just finished my 2nd 30 lb drop since I quit via low a carb diet. I've kept 25 of it off for a month now and I think I can keep it off by just not eating and drinking a bunch of crap that there are great low carb substitutes for.

First off -- Good Luck

I stopped Feb 1st 2004 -- no cigs since then - not cold turkey I used a product called SMOKE AWAY and for me it worked like a charm. Now after about 7 days your cravings should stop. But the biggest challenge and I tell this to everyone who tries to stop is the mental part. This is a major challenge whenever you drink or socialize with any others who smoke around you. Once you get over that its all downhill

Another tidbit is this -- STOP THINKING ABOUT IT - Do not count the days dont talk to anyone about how long its been dont mention it to anyone else because all they will do is prod you about it. They say out of sight out of mind -- Wel out of mind out of mind works even better.
