Sneaking in a Herm quote here...

The Patriots hold 11 selections in the draft. Four of them are among the first 58. Six of them are in the top 97.

"You're talking about the best 100 players," ESPN analyst and former NFL head coach Herm Edwards said. "Regardless of how you have them graded, you're doing pretty good if you have a chance to get two of them. Now you have a chance to get six of them? Well, a lot of things are sitting on your plate."

You're doing pretty good if you have a chance to get two of the top 100 players in the draft? As in: if you have one pick at, say, #99 and another anywhere in that top 100, you're getting a good haul that year?

So logically, the only way to NOT have a pretty good draft is to have zero or one pick in the top 100. Essentially, that means every year all but maybe 1 or 2 teams are doing "pretty good" in the draft every year.

And "regardless of how you have them graded"? If you've graded prospects horribly - to the point where 30+ of your "top 100" are late-round prospects/talents - but still get two of your top 100 because no one else is looking to select them in the top 100, you're doing pretty good?

Also butchered the clich

He's always been big on food analogies.Chickens in pots, food on plates, etc. Also, cleaning, sweeping the corners and what not.

I'm going to the draft. My one goal-get a picture taken with ESPN's newest commentator, Heman Edwards. It would be akin to meeting Larry "Bud" Mellman on a flight to Chicago. Alas I don't have a photo.

Are a lot of things sitting on your plate a bad thing or a good thing?Coach Edwards seems to have some foreboding sense that an ill wind blows on such occasions, much like that which blows the morning after a really good barbeque at the Edwards abode. Was there simply too much pulled pork and brisket on his plate? Was it the beans? The potato salad? Pray tell, tell us!

Never mind the fact that, unless you trade a pick away, you should have three picks in the top 100 when you consider there's only 32 teams in the league.

So I guess in Herm's world, you're doing great if you blow a pick in the first three rounds by trading for an overrated veteran (Justin McCareins for example) and using your other two picks on two of the top 100 players in the draft. :confused0085:

I am so happy he's no longer part of the Jets organization.

I think you truly understand Herm. Congrats, I think.:)
