Klecko73isGod
Because I never heard him say that. What I heard Ryan say in his introductory press conference (which was the only time I've heard him talk about offense) was that he plans on having "an aggessive team on both sides of the ball" and "we will make some mistakes, but we're going to make them going 100 MPH." Doesn't sound like he wants a conservative offense to me. Is this the belief because we expect a strong defense and traditionally teams in strong defenses have had conservative offenses? Sounds to me, based on what Rex Ryan actually said, that he wants to kind of break that mold and have a team that's great and tough and takes risks on both sides of the ball. I got a feeling that our offense will only be reined in by the talent available to Schotty. Other than that, all bets are likely off. I don't think we're gonna be all that conservative offensively at all.

No one inquires about Jay Cutler if their goal is to hand the ball off 600x.
#27TheDominator
I expect unpredictability. That's bad news for those that wanted to forge an "offensive identity". I think they will spend most of the time running, but will break out a fair amount of trick plays, fake punts, things that aren't a normal part of the three yards and a cloud of dust game plan. I think Ryan, like Parcells sees that can garner more points than a traditional O. That's the way I think Big Bill did it.

No one inquires about Jay Cutler if their goal is to hand the ball off 600x. a strong run game is the best way to have an aggressive offense, imo. if you can consistently run the ball down your opponents throat they're gonna have no choice but respect that....which opens up all the other aspects of your offense. but i'm not saying anything that everyone here doesn't already know......lol
derp
he didn't say conservative his exact words were "all-weather" This is correct. And from there people assumed we wanted to run the ball and whatnot. I kind of picture a Steelers-esque offense for us if things work out correctly, or at least that being the goal. However, keep in mind he had no power on the offensive side of the ball there, so noone knows what kind of offense he wants.

However, keep in mind he had no power on the offensive side of the ball there, so noone knows what kind of offense he wants. Not only that, one would think he learned something from his experience in Baltimore - the key thing being to not waste an all-time defense by having no offense to speak of for most of a decade. How many more championships could Baltimore have won with that defense in the last 10 years had they simply had a serviceable offense and not an inept one? derp
I don't know how many different ways you need to be able to say that we don't have a quarterback, but this is definitely more than that. Well I mean the Steelers certainly don't have a bad quarterback, I'd take Ben Roethlisberger over either of our guys lol. I figure at the quarterback position we're going to want a guy who takes care of the football, but also has the arm to get the ball downfield to take pressure off of the run game. A little mobility, not Mike Vick/Vince Young mobility but the ability to move around in the pocket and buy time, avoid sacks, throw on the run, etc will probably be another attribute we look for. Either of our quarterbacks could be that guy if they can take care of the football, but that's obviously impossible to determine at the moment. The Steelers are known as a run-first team, but they can really break your back getting the ball downfield and Big Ben can have a big game if needed. It's a style of offense that's generally very successful come playoff time, especially if you have a good defense, which I expect us to have. So not really conservative, but I think we use the run to set up the pass and try and make some things happen downfield in the passing game. jack48
he didn't say conservative his exact words were "all-weather" I think they will be run-oriented but not necessarily conservative. Not Chad conservative. They will take shots. It will not be a dumpoff offense. You have to throw to score effectively in this league anymore. Larz
maybe this helped rex form his opinions of offensive playcalling 5. Buddy Ryan slugs Kevin Gilbride Jan. 2. 1994. There'd been a long feud simmering between Oilers defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan and offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride. For example, Ryan repeatedly derided Gilbride's "run-and-shoot" offense, calling it "chuck-and-duck." The two hadn't spoken to each other for a long time; and finally, the bad feelings boiled over into violence.
124
Ryan said he wants an offense that can win in all weather conditions and said that running the football is that is how that offense works. He said numerous times that he this was going to be a running team / run first team. He comes from the Baltimore world, he will have an offense just like that, and thats basically what he has said.
