StillerPaul
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/s_622571.html Unrestricted free agent Ashley Lelie, among the top deep receiving threats in the NFL, met with Steelers officials Monday and could sign with the team, agent Peter Schaffer said. "He had a great visit. The Steelers and I are going to continue to have open dialogue," Schaffer said. "I think there's some mutual interest, and we're going to keep discussing it." A former first-round draft pick by Denver, Lelie's play experienced a sharp decline after being traded to Atlanta in 2006. Lelie demanded a trade after Denver acquired receiver Javon Walker. I'm kinda hoping we get him. Big Ben would bring out the best in him IMO.
Ghost
He's just not good, Paul. I think you guys could get a better one after some cuts.

New York Mick
What other vet WR are out there? I tried to find a list but all I found was FA.
Bergen Jet
I would take a chance on him in a second. He doesn't turn 29 until after the season is over and has led the league in YPC a couple of times. I don't think he will ever be the 1000+ yard receiver he once was I would definitely consider bringing him in.
uart
Ugh. I really believe this team is going to start the season with Stuckey and Cotch as the #1 and #2 WR... Bad decision.

I don't see the big deal. Over the past two seasons Brad Smith has had better stats than Ashley Lelie. If you want a guy to stretch the field and maybe get a disproportionate number of TDs per catch he's a good choice, but Ashley Lelie is NOT a #1 or #2 WR. We need competition at the 3 spot. We drafted the Wallace kid and have Limas Sweed but i see no harm in signing a guy like Lelie. Can never have enough deep threats for Ben imo. So far he has been a disappointment. I dunno who yells at him more for dropping passes, the coaching staff or Hines Ward. Close call. lol All the more proof that we need a vet WR deep threat added in the mix. We gotta worry about the Pats and Colts just as much as our own division too. I don't think he's a bad risk for the Steelers, I just don't think he'd solve the Jets problems at WR. He's not likely to be a 1 or 2. He's a burner that will give lots of ypc. Probably a good guy for Ben.
StillerPaul
Rather than make another Steeler thread i'll just put this tidbit here.......... Steelers release ILB Larry Foote and promote Lawrence Timmons to starter. It's said they did it to free up cap space. In a move that doesn't come as a surprise, the Steelers have released linebacker Larry Foote. By releasing the veteran linebacker, the Steelers save over $2.8 million on this year's salary cap. With Lawrence Timmons ready to go, there was no way that Foote would've started ahead of the former #1 pick. And in the age of the salary cap, Foote is just too expensive to keep as a backup. It's widely believed that Foote is going to sign with his hometown team, the Detroit Lions. "I think he'd enjoy that,'' said Foote's agent, Ken Kremer. The Lions haven't been in contact with Kremer yet but that's expected to happen soon. Foote, who will be 29 in June, has played seven years in the league and has started the last five seasons and hasn't missed a game due to injury in the last six years. He's also helped the Steelers win a couple of Super Bowls.
StillerPaul
Oooooooooooooooooops !! Steelers have issued a statement denying the release of Larry Foote. Apparently they notified him they will promote Lawrence Timmons to his job and he asked for release. The Steelers tried to trade him during the draft and had no takers, so the plan is believed to be TRY to trade him but if they can't they'll grant his wish for a release. My apollogies for aiding a rumor.
