Darrelle Revis on Jim Rome today.

PS17

Recommended Posts

-Happy the Jets got Sanchez. Says the Jets needed a QB and he is confident Sanchez will do well

-Happy with Ryan, more laid back atmosphere

-Great first mini camp

-The Jets will put alot of pressure on opposing offenses

-Collapse of 08 - the Jets became relaxed, overconfident after wins vs NE and TENN

-Revis learned a ton from Ty Law, who went to the same HS as Darrelle

-Move to get Lito was great, Revis wanted the deal and he got it done with Tanny

Pretty good interview, nothing too special. Revis is just the man though, my favorite Jet by far over the past two years. The best player on the team and a real stand-up, smart guy. Go #24

Met a couple of Steeler fans this weekend who really wanted Revis. (I think they were also Pitt alums/current students). They told stories about how Revis was when he was young-- one dude actually played on an opposing high school team in basketball against Revis. His team completely destroyed Revis' team 80-60 or something like that, but Revis singlehandedly scored 50 of his team's 60 points by just shooting 3s. Aliqqipa is a great town for football. Nothing there but basura anymore, but it produces a hell lot of good football talent.

Yeah, they did talk about Aliquippa for a bit. It does produce some great football talent. However, it is really run down and ghetto. I read an article in the Times earlier this year about Revis growing up there, and the struggles. He went through alot to get to where he is today.

Not just Aliqqipa, all of western PA produces good players. Think of it like the Texas of the north. Football is like a religion in the entire region.

I was one of those Steelers fans that wanted Revis as well. Had Tomlin not raved about him so much leading up to that draft we may have landed him too. Either way i'm glad he is doing so well. I love to see my Pitt guys do well in the pro's. We got a pretty good success rate. :)

please check yourself. Leon washington is far and away the Jets best overall player. There are no other Jets who are pure ALL PRO right now except Leon.

I LOVE REVIS, but he's not as valuable to the Jets as Leon right now.

No. shutdown corner >>>>> specialty back; I love Leon but REVIS is the most valuable player and the BEST player on this team right now.

Your kidding? I'd take a shut down corner anyday over Washington.

Disagree about most valuable....

I'd say right now, Dbrick, Mangold, Bart Scott, Kris Jenkins, and even Mark Sanchez are more VALUABLE to this team than Darelle Revis. Now, Revis might very well be the best at his position on this team, but being that he is a cornerback, he is far from most valuable.

One of the hardest players to find is a true shutdown corner. Having a player like Revis will make this defense strong for as long as he's a Jet.

The number one priority in building a team from the ground up is left tackle. A shutdown corner is probably number two.

Disagree completely. How many SB teams have won it all because of strong CB/Secondary play? Teams win SB's because they are skilled, experienced, and have depth at the positions that are always involved and always a big part of every play. (DL, LB, OL, QB) I guarantee you will never find a SB winning team with mediocre talent/experience/depth at more than one of these positions: OL, LB, DL, and QB. You WILL find PLENTY of SB winning teams who are great at each of those positions and are only mediocre in the secondary, especially at CB. Ive done the research plenty of times, do it yourself. Look up the last 10 SB winners and tell me how many of them had better CB's than they had LB's, DL, OL, and QB.

Think of it this way... Darelle Revis had a great season last year... We went 9-7 and missed the playoffs. If Mark Sanchez is as good at QB, or Kris Jenkins as good at NT, or Harris/Scott/Pace/Gholston/Thomas as good at LB this year as Revis was at CB last year, we are probably competing for a SB.

Pretty much the same stuff as earlier.

Gave a strong endorsement of Sanchez. Said he could be the opening day starter. Never mentioned Clemens. Could be the reason this trade was done. If one of the leaders of the vets aren't sold on Clemens after 3 years...................

Loves Ryan........ Seems like a real nice kid.

The entire organization from player to owner is basically saying the same thing:

Ratliff and Clemens were hard to watch, "we were crapping our pants, because those two succk!"

Poor Clemens has to linger around and wallow in in at least Ratliff went to compete with two guys who have 50% passing completions and 60 QB ratings, however he IS in Cleveland.

Those poor guys, they went from hated rivals to best phone buddies overnight! LOLOLOL

Larry Brown vs. Steelers comes directly to mind, or was that O'Donnell's incompetance. So we decided to get him the next year.

But I agree with Klecko.

Having Revis (and Glenn before that,Revis maybe better) gives the safeties so much play. They likely don't have to dopuble and triple every good receiver in the league. Shutdown CB's let everyone else do their job---rush the QB, tackle the RB, play center field by playing the Qb shadow.

"REMEMBER THE VANCE JOSEPH!!!!"

CB has never won a SB?

In 1994 and 1995 Deion Sanders shifted the balance of power between the 49ers and Cowboys.

In '94 he was a 49er and was the missing piece that finally enabled them to beat the Cowboys in the playoffs and go on to win the SB. Sanders was DPOY omn '04.

In '95, Sanders signed a FA deal with the Cowboys and promptly put a Barry Switzer-coached Cowboys team back on top of the 49ers and won the SB. Oh and Larry Brown's 4 INTs in that SB were a direct result of the Steelers being deathly afraid to throw to Sanders side of the field.

Best thing that ever happened to Rome, he's a star, now. He's hysterical, he's got a cult following, and unless he knew he would fall off that mini-stage and the guys would get there, he's got some balls. He could easily be taken a couple weeks off with a broken jaw and a chunk of Jimbo cash(probably whatever's left.)

Rome's the man, he knew that was a win-win, he boosts to stardom and the worst he gets thrashed by a pro-athlete that he dissed to his face, the bigger and richer he becomes. I GOT YOUR BACK ROME!

Plus, Chris Everett and every other athlete he disses usually deserve it and it's usually hysterical.

He's also untouchable as far as ratings, but........STILL FUNNY LIVE ISH>

The same area i was in , but said with so much more insight. That's a great way to look at it.

I never made the Sanders/Brown connection, but it's absolutely right.

Nobody was Deion. Deion was simply "CLOSED DOWN" period. Revis is tougher, usually doesn't give anything if the pass IS caught, but Deion was Jordan at CB when it comes to , I'm not even looking over there.

Eh. It was another era, but Lester Hayes did a pretty good job of getting the Raiders their super bowl wins in 1980 and 1983. IMO you guys are overrating Deion.

Football is a team game and any position can tip the balance. That's why you need to get some special talents and not just a bunch of okay players. IMO, most players on the Jets D the last few years have been solid, but without a few top flight pieces they look pedestrian and, at times horrid. If Gholston panned out all those guys would have looked a hell of lot better.

So essentially the last time a CB won the Superbowl was when they were playing for teams that ere already great at those other positions mentioned. And we're talking about the best CB ever in Sanders. And '95 was 13/14 years ago now.
