Journalist Selena Roberts makes the case that Alex Rodriguez likely used steroids in high school and may have taken HGH while with the Yankees in her new biography of the MVP, a portrait of a deeply insecure man trying to cope with being abandoned by his father and obsessed with becoming a superstar.

I ****ing hate that bitch. Her whole life is based upon bringing down A-Rod with things that "may" have happened. I'd be fine with it if she got some damn facts with cold hard evidence, but it's all bull**** & rumors. Whore.

My book will be in the mail tommorow, I want to see if there is any substance to any of this. THis chick definatly has an axe to grind with Alex, I wonder why?

& wtf @ this?

For her, a key insight into A-Rod's character comes with what some might call a fib: He tells people he hit with wood bats in high school because that's what the pros use, even though she found photo evidence he used metal.

talk about reaching.

I think she just wants a piece of that $300 million contract, and the $250 million one before that.

That or she really, really needs to get laid.

Or, most likely, just trying to make a name for herself, any which way that she can. Some people are power hungry, looks like Selena Roberts is one of them. She longs to be in the spot light and longs for respect. Probably was never hugged as a child.

Selena Roberts Slurs Innocent Duke Lacrosse Players, Again

Times sports columnist Selena Roberts attacks innocent Duke players with sarcasm and accusations of white privilege: "Don't mess with Duke, though. To shine a light on its integrity has been treated by the irrational mighty as a threat to white privilege....lay off the lacrosse pipeline to Wall Street, excuse the khaki-pants crowd of SAT wonder kids."

When it comes to slurring innocent Duke lacrosse players, sports columnist Selena Roberts is apparently angling to become the Amanda Marcotte of the New York Times. Even after the three lacrosse players have been all but formally cleared of the sexual assault of a stripper (in a case brought forward by a zealous local prosecutor Mike Nifong, to go on trial himself for ethics violations in his handling of the case), Roberts apparently thinks it was worth it in her Sunday column, "Closing a Case Will Not Mean Closure at Duke." SelenaRoberts.jpg

Here's what she said before on the Duke "rape" case in March last year (as the "victim's" case was trumpeted in the credulous media) in a column that seethes with the presumption of guilt.

"The season is over, but the paradox lives on in Duke's lacrosse team, a group of privileged players of fine pedigree entangled in a night that threatens to belie their social standing as human beings.

"Something happened March 13, when a woman, hired to dance at a private party, alleged that three lacrosse players sexually assaulted her in a bathroom for 30 minutes. According to reported court documents, she was raped, robbed, strangled and was the victim of a hate crime. She was also reportedly treated at a hospital for vaginal and anal injuries consistent with sexual assault and rape.

"Players have been forced to give up their DNA, but to the dismay of investigators, none have come forward to reveal an eyewitness account.

"Maybe the team captains are right. Maybe the allegations are baseless.

"But why is it so hard to gather the facts? Why is any whisper of a detail akin to snitching?"

The conclusion to Roberts' March 2006 column carried the same flavor of Duke guilt that emanated from the body of the piece: "Does President Brodhead dare to confront the culture behind the lacrosse team's code of silence or would he fear being ridiculed as a snitch?"

As the "case" winds down to its ignominious end, Roberts returned to the subject on Sunday (Times Select $ required), whining about some of the "loquacious bullies" who emailed her in support of the lacrosse players and against her biased columns -- "several hostile lacrosse advocates have burned a hole in my in-box as well over the past year."

But Roberts had nothing to say on Sunday about local North Carolina district attorney Michael Nifong's unethical behavior in pushing rape charges against the Duke lacrosse players (the most she could muster was to call him "one part district attorney, one part clueless Columbo"), or the assumptions of guilt by liberal Duke faculty, or the false charges from the alleged rape victim.

Roberts started off with snottiness: "The ubiquitous 'Innocent' wristbands of the yellow 'LiveStrong' variety have become a wardrobe accessory akin to a watch for some Duke lacrosse supporters."

Later on, Roberts tried to conflate the false rape charges with what she considers athletic misbehavior on campus (as if non-athlete students have never done similar things).

"What happens if all the charges are dismissed? There is a tendency to conflate the alleged crime at the Duke lacrosse team kegger on March 13, 2006, with the irrefutable culture of misogyny, racial animus and athlete entitlement that went unrestrained that night.

"Porn-style photos of two exotic dancers -- one of whom was the accuser -- emerged from cellphone camera downloads. Heated exchanges between players and dancers occurred. Racial slurs were heard. And in an 'American Psycho' reference, a repulsive e-mail message depicting the skinning of strippers was sent by a player, Ryan McFadyen, who, to his credit, has since apologized."

Note the double standard: While the woman who made false charges of rape has yet to be named in the media, but Roberts still feels free to criticize lacrosse players by name in print.

"To many, the alleged crime and culture are intertwined. No trial, all vindication. This microview has some passionate, respectful followers, but also a few loquacious bullies.

"Some of them have expressed their anger with threatening e-mail messages to Duke staff members who had voiced opinions on the scandal."

Is Roberts really ignorant of the infamous "Duke 88," the politically correct faculty who signed an open letter described by case expert-blogger KC Johnson as "a document saying 'thank you' to campus demonstrators who had distributed a 'wanted' poster of the lacrosse players and publicly branded the players 'rapists.'"

Roberts, perhaps aware that her legal hand was weak, next slapped down the race card.

"Don

A-rod used PEDs. And...what else? Bad tipper? MIGHT has done various misdeeds? Is a bad husband?

I wish the Yanks had allowed him to walk and they applied his salary to some other better less problematic productive player or 2, but that's done.

All of those running for sainthood, hands up! Not many.

The media is this country right now has zero credibility. Yet every reporter starts their discussion about this book by telling us what a great reporter that Selena Roberts is, and that's hogwash on stilts. This is the latest example. Roberts is trying to rehab her career after she stupidly and cravenly went for the brass ring by trying to hang those innocent Duke lax players and lost. The information that these guys did nothingw rong was out there, but Selena Roberts wanted to write the story about evil white college jocks raping a downtrodden black townie. And that her stories about the case weren't remotely true didn't bother her at all. She had a narrative PC template of how the story should be, damn the truth and damn those boys. Make no mistake-that's what she tried to do.

If you want to weigh the misdeeds, A-rod, bad guy as he is, doesn't come close to Selena Roberts trying to see that some innocent if stupid college lax players were ruined for life and almost sent to jail because it fit with her BS PC narrative.

You hear some people in the media taking a step back from all the hearsay, maybes, half truths and 2nd and 3rd hand nonsense Roberts is selling. Unless they want to be embarrassed, they'd best make that a parade.

I think there are alot more people out there that have more interest in the Wall Street douchebags that are making a killing while wiping out people's

401k's than A-Rod right now.

A-Rod very simply has to keep his mouth shut and worry about baseball and I think you will see the tide start to turn to his favor.

I mean afterall isn't that what the media does ? Tears down these great legends just so they can build them back up again.

This book at this point is nothing more that reading People magazine.

I don't really care for either of them, I think my issue is there doesn't appear to be anything in this book (That we didn't already know) that is more then he-said, she-said. At least when the Steroid story first broke it was a fact that was verified by 4 different sources, and later by Alex himself. The book on the other hand sounds like it just let anything she felt like writing in.

What we don't know is who are the sources? And that is a problem in any investigative piece that claims unnamed sources.

Credibility and agenda come into question then.

The pitch tipping is the newest claim that carries an eyebrow lift. And of course the accusation of doping while with the yankees.

You do have to wonder why MLB is doing their own investigation, after they spoke to A-Rod.

We went through this with Clemens....in the end most of the dirt is found out to be true. Roids has become a boring story but guys like Clemens and ARod who claimed to be clean and in general are POS's, deserve everything they get. The problem for their defenders is that it was just more fun when it was only about Barry Bonds.

No doubt. I just don't want scumbags like Selena Roberts assuming the role as an arbiter of morality. she's a POS.

Bio hazard: A-Rod author has credibility issues

A-Rod biographer/hunter Selena Roberts is beginning to remind me of Rev. Al Sharpton.

Sharpton separated the crime from the culture, too. When he gallivanted around New York in the '80s seeking justice for alleged victim Tawana Brawley, his target was the culture of racism more than the six white men falsely accused of rape.

9542100_36_1.jpg

Tuesday, as I listened to Roberts defend her New York Times columns that painted the Duke lacrosse players as rapists, cowards and liars during an interview on Jim Rome's nationally syndicated radio show, I couldn't help but notice she went with the Sharp-tongue defense.

"I wrote about the culture at Duke, and there's no doubt about that. I stand by that today," Roberts said. "I separated the criminal investigation from the culture."

Maybe it's a New York, freedom-fighter thing, this amazing ability to ignore the innocence of the criminally accused while making your justifiable point that America suffers from and with racism and sexism.

Roberts' writings/rantings on Duke lacrosse have become relevant again because she's asked us to trust her anonymous investigative reporting and speculation about Alex Rodriguez, the confessed steroid cheat and home run hitter.

According to Roberts' new book and her interview blitzkrieg, Rodriguez used steroids in high school, tipped pitches to opposing batters, tipped Hooters waitresses a paltry 15 percent, was nicknamed "Bitch ****" in the locker room and is caught up in being perfect because his father abandoned him as a child.

Her sourcing for the most damaging allegations, by her own admission, is either anonymous or non-existent. She wants us to trust her, and her New York Times- and Sports Illustrated-highlighted r

Trying to make this about Roberts would be cool except ARod has already copped to one of her accusations. One he had lied about on national TV.

If this is like many former roids users who got caught, the additional stuff usually is also found to be true.

I think Whitlock's point is not so much that he is carrying A-Rod's jock saying do not believe this woman or book.

Given her clear anti- A-Roid agenda, which has been there for about 4 years, however valid her stance might be.

It is lost in the fact she has a clear agenda. How many people tune out Arianna Hiffington or Ann Coulter just because they are talking? A lot.

I think Selena is a victim of this. Whitlock is also correct because there is little news worthy stuff in the book and it is not based on anything concrete.

My book came today and I just started reading it, so far it reads like a supermarket tabloid.

"A-Rod loves himself"

"A-Rod loves to stare at himself in the clubhouse mirrors"

"A-Rod is anal about his diet, doesnt eat the junk food laying around the clubhouse, much to the shagrin of teammates. He makes his own food. He's a health nut obsessed with body and body image"

"A-Rod loves paparazzi and TMZ"

"A-Rod loves the limelight"

"A-Rod tries to act tough but he really isnt, its just a veneer"

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!

Not really any shockers in this book.
