Alk
Can't say that I really blame him. Hopefully they'll get something worked out.
Aqua4ever04
I think I echo the thoughts of everyone here when I say, "Let's hope Ron Brace is a complete flop." Because Wilfork is not coming back next year; he wants money and the Pats won't pay him top dollar. And the key to the 34 defense (as you guys all know with Jenkins) is the nose tackle. It's the proverbial glue.
124
If New England lets Vince Wilfork go that will be one player that they will not be able to replace.
Aqua4ever04
If New England lets Vince Wilfork go that will be one player that they will not be able to replace. It's not the template by which Belichick operates to give out that kind of paycheck. I agree, Joe, I really do. But Wilfork is the selfish type that will ask for big bucks or show the Pats his backside as he leaves the facility. They could tag him, but if he's already sitting out this year, you're just asking for a long term hold out.

Damaged89
This is going to get real interesting. Resigning him goes against New England's template but do they really want to hand the nose tackle job to Brace next year? veerrryyyy interesting. SMC
With all these new 3-4 teams (and the old-ones too like the Browns & Jets), Wilfork will make huge amount of money on the open market. Also, isn't Seymour going to be an UFA after this season?

Boozer76
If New England lets Vince Wilfork go that will be one player that they will not be able to replace. Absofrigginlutely. NE is out of their minds if they think letting Wilfork go wouldn't be devastating to their defense. Selfish? He's potentially the best NT in the league and is asking his team to lock him up long term by paying him what he's worth. He could just opt not tto sign anything with NE and hit the FA market where hell make a boatload more money.

He pulled the same thing and they worked out a deal. This doesn't go against their template at all. It's just that nowhere in that template will they pay a player more than he's worth which is exactly the case 99% of the time.
124
Also, isn't Seymour going to be an UFA after this season? I believe so. Would love to see the Jets bring in Seymour to replace Marques Douglas in 2010. I would think at 36 Douglas is nearing the end, but he will start this season opposite Ellis. Wilfork and the Pats will work something out.
Irish Jet
They'll sign him. It's not New Englands style to sign players to top dollar, I agree. Although Aqua, you said - "It's not the template by which Belichick operates to give out that kind of paycheck." True, but Being stupid is also not a style of BB. He'll ensure that he's signed. Gainzo
I'm betting he will. As far as missing the OTA's ...... BFD. Exactly. He has stayed at his home in Massachusetts the entire time. It's not like he is off in California or anything. I will be very surprised if he doesn't show up next week. If he doesn't then there is a problem. Oh I agree with that. But do you think Belichick would dish out Haynesworth money? That might be what it takes. Remember, guys, the market has been set by Mr. Snyder once again, that looms much larger than anything else.

Ghost
The same could've been said about Lawyer Milloy in 2003. You simply can't compare Vince Wolfork to Milloy. However, I know where you're coming from. Milloy was a great safety with the Pats. But without Wilfork, the Pats defense will drop immediately. flgreen
No question Wilfork will play for the Pats in 09. The issue is 10. If the pats don't give him a contract this year he will be gone next year. The problem for the Pats is that he is off his best stat year. He is only 27. As pointed out dominating NT's are at a high premium in 3-4 D's. He is going to be very expensive. I think the Pats will sit tight this year. He will be there for the mandatory work outs. Make some noise, but be there. I think this will be his last year with the Pats
