Where did the Jets go? Morristown blinks and misses them

Gary Scotti and Steve Mindnich with autographed jerseys from Jets players Eric Ainge and Wayne Hunter, at Scotti's Record Shop in Morristown. The odd fellow in the middle is a friend of Steve's.

The New York Jets were scheduled to visit some Morristown businesses from 1 to 1:30 p.m. and hobnob with shoppers. But they blew through early, and were gone shortly after 1 p.m., disappointing a few fans and pedestrians who had hoped to glimpse the gridders.

Steve Mindnich, who has been attending Jets games since 1980, showed up early at brother-in-law Garry Scotti's store, Scotti's Record Shop, and got to meet quarterback Eric Ainge and offensive lineman Wayne Hunter. He also popped into The Office restaurant and met new Jets coach Rex Ryan.

"I've been a fan since '67," said Steve, who retired from institutional stock trading last year and lives in Mendham. He plans to watch some Jets mini-practice sessions next week at their Florham Park practice facility.

"It's been a lot of pain, a lot of suffering. I'm an optimist. Every year I think the Jets will win the Super Bowl. It's been 43 years. I sound like a broken record. But I think they will be fun to watch."

If the Jets' offense moves as fast as the team bus did in Morristown, maybe Steve's prediction finally will come true this season.

'You missed them!' Gary Scotti erases Jets sign from his window. Two Jets came earlier than announced for a fan visit... faking out fans who came at the appointed time.
